Rebecca's Story
What a long, strange trip its been. Right? Never made it to college, other than a few courses here and there. I spent 21 years of my life (yikes!) working with attorneys. In 1998 I left Wichita and moved to Traverse City, MI where my granddaughter was born. Knew she wouldn't be coming back to Kansas, so went to her. Again, worked for attorneys. Traverse City is such a beautiful place. I lived 1/4 from Grand Traverse Bay, an 1/8 of a mile from Cedar Lake, and the Leelanau Trail was just across the street. Never knew I enjoyed being outside until I moved to Michigan. Never knew that snow could fall straight down. Of course in Kansas, it always blows sideways. Anyway, my two daughters were grown and my oldest, along with my granddaughter moved back to Wichita where my daughter obtained her bachelors in vocal performance from Friends. just graduated from NYU with her masters in social work. Yep. Both of those girls are going to be raking in the dough . . . but I know they pursued their heart's desire and I'm proud that my daughters accomplished something I did not. I married my husband in 2006 and moved to the Thumb of Michigan, an agricultural community that reminds me of Kansas (pretty flat) but the farms average about 400 acres, compared to the 1000 in Kansas, yet I've never seen such huge farm equipment for postage stamp sized farms! My husband is an optometrist (the best) and I work with him in his practice. We enjoy each other immensely and pretty much stick to ourselves. I wish it had not taken so long to meet him. Anyway, life is pretty much life. My favorite quote (because I know you want to know that) - sometimes you have to give up the life you planned in order to live the life you're given.
