Rebecca's Story

Life I graduated from Lane in 1973 and was married in September of 1974 to Tommie Collier,. We have 2 sons, 4 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. . We have lived in Crozet since 1977. We have two dogs, Maxine.and Pickles. Sadly Tommie passed away in October of 2013. He was also a member of the graduating class of '73. I am currently employed with Albemarle County Public Schools as a Software Application Specialist providing technical support to all 26 schools for the student information system, support for the online registration program, and the electronic messaging service. I also conduct professional development classes for staff. I returned to Piedmont Community College and in 2005 graduated with an Associate Degree in Information Technology. I enjoy reading, crocheting, quilting, photography, scrapbooking, walking, and family times together. My husband and I also enjoy visiting the beautiful state parks in Virginia. ...Expand for more
We have spent many special moments at the cabins in these beautiful parks. If you ever get the chance to visit you too will be a frequent guest. I miss doing this a lot. One of the special places for me now is Skyline Drive. 2008 was a very rough and sad year. I lost my dad (one of my best friends) in April due to medication issues. In August I lost my brother-in-law due to Cancer. In 2013 Tommie passed away unexpectedly due to heart and lung issues. Lost my mom in 2015 and my brother-in-law in 2016. Most recently we lost a sailor, Dakota Rigsby on the USS Fitzgerald. He was only 19 and was my sister's grandson. We are still looking for answers and asking for prayers. I have a strong faith in God and that has helped me get through all the many ups and downs. I have also learned that life is indeed precious and must be cherished. Too often loved ones are gone before we are ready to let them go. God Bless each of you!
