Rebecca (Becky)'s Story
My name is Becky Rogers Francis. I expect most people really don't remember me, so let me remind you of a few things about me when I was at Henry Clay (the old building on Main Street) and U.K. - Lexington Campus.
My best friend was Pat Corbett, who was an exceptional actress and operatic singer-in-training. Her brother, Doug, was awesome, too.
I enjoyed playing tennis and was on the Girl's Tennis Team from 9th Grade at Morton Junion High and three years at HC. My sister and I usually teamed up and played doubles for the team.
I was an okay student in High School, but fortunately had an excellent foundation for making a success of myself at the University of Kentucky.
I was in the Honors Program at UK and studied everything that interested me hoped would play out in the future as a career, etc. This included architecture, design, sciences, higher mathematics, etc. I absolutely loved my professors. I was also on the UK Student Center Board (Travel Director) which provided me with years of travel experiences while attending UK. I was also the student rep on President Singletary's student issues committee. I really enjoyed that, being among all the College Deans to forward student issues of that time.
I got married and had one child, Rachel. I am no longer married, but have lots of friends and acquaintances. My daughter has been married for over ten years to a wonderful fellow and they live in Southern California, not too far from LA.
I lived in Los Angeles for over 20 years working primarily in the architectural field, which has always been a true facination. I have participated in the creation of over 50 buildings internationally, operating out of LA. Some of the buildings I worked on are on Hollywood Boulevard (3), South Africa, Belgium, England, but mostly in the Southern California area.
While working on the building expansion program at a movie studio, I was asked to audition for parts and subsequently performed in about 28 films and video productions. This was fabulous and lots of fun!
At the same time of working on the movie studio expansion, I was asked to work in the final production of films as a Post Production Specialist. Seems they were impressed that I could put a studio together rapidly and within budget, so I was asked to become a Post Production Specia...Expand for more
list. This is totally behind the scenes and not very well known. It simply means taking the film and pushing it through the editing process, supervising the negative cutting, going through the audio process, getting the music process added to the film, translations for voice-overs, as well as, subtitling. Finally all this comes together and you get all the prints produced and out to the theaters around the world. Whew!
I worked for 16 hours a day for thirteen years and many times around the clock for days on end to make a release!!! Double-whew! In total I post-produced over 30 films and over 120 videos and ended up working at all the movie studios in Hollywood, Culver City, North Hollywood and Burbank.
I also branched out into event production for eight years working at the Shrine Auditorium (LA), former venue of the Oscars, and Universal Studio Ampitheatre. I put on eight shows a year (including New Years Eve events). My New Year's events were filmed and edited early and then I turned the Shrine over to Dick Clark Productions for their show. I really enjoyed working with all the union guys and sub-contractors at the Shrine, especially.
It seems that opportunities present themselves when you least expect them and so it goes for me. I moved out of Los Angeles in Late May to the small town of Round Rock. Texas. This is where my parents moved twelve years ago to be closer to my younger brother his wife and family. I helped my parents for several months and enjoying myself thoroughly. I took time to decide what I wanted to do for the next 25 - 30 or so years to come and have found caring for my family to be the most rewarding. My aunt & uncle asked that I come and help them, so I moved to North Carolina in 2008. Upon my uncle's demise in 2009, I stayed to help my aunt regain her strength until October, 2010. Now that she is back on her feet again, I've moved to Leesburg, Viriginia to continue my travels and enjoy the adventure of life.
I love to entertain friends and obviously enjoy being with my family. I only have a few family members that live in Lexington now. To me, my favorite place to remember is Lexington and miss it very much.
Please feel free to leave me a message and let me know how and what you are doing. I am eager to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Becky
