Rebecca's Story
Aloha kākou. I live with my partner, Cindy, and two cats, Moggy and Isabel, in San Francisco. I play ʻukulele (2008) and kīkā kila (steel guitar, 2016), enjoy Hawaiian music, photography, geocaching, caves, weird foods, San Francisco and California history, and board, trivia and word games. I also love to travel and have been to Canada four times, England six times, Wales and Belgium, and have driven and taken the train X-country numerous times. Through my ukulele playing, I have come to love Hawaiian music, have taken some ‘Ōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language) courses and in May 2016 started to play Hawaiian-style steel guitar. 17 I finally got to see where she came from when I attended the Maui Steel Guitar Camp & Festival. A good friend who grew up on Maui and I drove the infamous and breathtaking Road to Hāna. I retired in October 2017 and a week later went on my first cruise, 15 days through the Panama Canal, with my friend who grew up on Maui. Since retiring, I also travelled to the East Coast where my partner is from, Yosemite and Mammoth Lakes, London twice, cruised to Alaska and SE Asia and spent some time in Singapore, and been to steel guitar events in Fort Collins and Kāpaʻa (Kauaʻi) and spent time on the Big Island. I’ve kept busy with my musical activities. Life is good.
