Rebecca's Story

Since the post below life has changed again. My father died on Christmas day 2020. He was 92 and had a good life. I was able to keep him at home with hospice care help. Since then I have sold his house - just too expensive in San Diego and I had stopped working to care for him. I have moved to Tucson Arizona near my brother and plan to buy a little house here. The cost of living is much more doable and Tucson is a very green desert. And the storms during the monsoon are amazing!! My dog Gus and I are settling in and avoiding the heat for now. I'm working for UNC-Chapel Hill remotely since Jan 2022. I hope all of you are doing well. Isn't it weird to be approaching retirement age?!! I hope old friends remember me with kindness. Because High School is a weird time of life. I thought that I'd be involved in art for a living, probably commercial art. But instead I fell into a rather odd line of work - protecting people who choose to be human subjects in research. Who knew - there's a whole process and lots of laws and regulations! I mostly worked for community hospitals in the San Diego area. I moved from San Diego in January of 2007 to far western South Carolina with some very good friends. We all wanted a change from Southern California and they wanted to raise their kids in a different environment. I bought a house very close to Clemson University and started to settle into life there. Then I got this job offer I couldn't sa...Expand for more
y no to. So I took a job as an Accreditation Director in Washington D.C. for the only accreditation organization for human research protection programs. After that I did the same kind of work for the Navy and Air Force and a hospital system in Maryland. But my dad got very sick and I came back to San Diego the end of 2013 to help take care of him. I managed not to get married, though I certainly tried. So I have dogs instead of kids but I'm an aunt to everyone's kids that I know. I keep busy with a lot of different interests. I build miniature houses and make quilts as well a many other things. Creating this stuff keeps me sane! And I'm at the point in life where it's nice to reconnect with people I haven't connected with in many years. Feel free to get in touch. May 2010 I've changed jobs here in D.C. I now work as a contractor for the Dept. of the Navy overseeing navy commands process of human research subject protection. It's a new prospective - haven't worked with any military before. But I would love to have an office outside of the District of Columbia!!! Can't wait. June 2014 Time passes! I'm back in San Diego after leaving Virginia in November of 2013. My dad's health wasn't good so I came back to help him out. It was a good time to come back to San Diego. I'm working with a company called Aspire IRB in Santee, on Woodside Avenue. What a strange feeling to drive back into Santee. But good to be back in San Diego.
