Rebel's Story

Otto's bio inspired me to add my own. Who'd ever guess we'd end up where we have? Anyway, Spent 6 years getting my BA in Chapel Hill, hung out there til '77. Over the years worked as bartender, bookstore warehousman, resident counselor at a center for mentally retarded, teachers' aide on a Cherokee reservaton, got a teachers' cert at NC Central U (never used it). Never did anythig longer than than 8 months. Never had a steady relationship the whole time (what else is new?). Finally, needed a 'rest' so joined Peace Corps in '78, was sent to Korea, met my wife and have been married for 28 years (are we really that old?) Three kids. Son 25, Dau 21, son 19. Working civil service now also 28 years (Peace Corps counts). Live and work for wife and kids - without them I'd go back to Chapel Hill tomorrow and hang out again. Interesting thing in my life so far - witnessed the Kwangju riots and killings the day we married, May 18, 1980. Was 6 blocks from the World Trade Center on Sep 11, 2001 and watched the people falling to their deaths, ran from the smoke and dust. too unreal - (but see the YouTube, rebelandson remake ...Expand for more
of "An Open Leter to My Teenage Son"). Uncovered a procurement fraud that sent 3 guys to prison - but got myself fired for it. Blew the whistle on Army waste, got fired again, but still got what I wanted - closed a base in England and saved the Army $15M a year - and the Brits blamed me in Parliament for doing it to them. Led a team of civil servants that won the EPA 1997 Stratospheric Protection Award (for a study to reduce Army's use of Ozone Depleting Chemicals in the Pacific Theater). Spent 5 days in jail in 1976 for drunk driving and was accused of assault on a police officer. Refused to plea bargain and convinced the jury I never assaulted the cop - but had the book thrown at me anyway. Survived so far on pure dumb luck and am afraid I've used up my family's allotment - there's none left for my kids... Living back in Germany now. Other places we've lived are Korea (twice), Japan, Saudi Arabia, Hawaii, NY, NJ, MO, IL, VA. Looking forward to going back to Chapel Hill in a few years... All in all, I'm satisfied with what's happened since high school but didn't plan any of it so can't take credit for it, either.

Help? I planted these flowers from seed, maybe mixing some. Can someone tell me if the green shoot in the middle is a flower-to-be or is just a weed? The flowers, I think, are daffodils.

Interesting to note that the hotel was held liable but not the manufacturers or sellers of the guns or ammunition.

I grew this from seed beginning last summer/fall but have forgotten what it was I planted. I think it is some kind of flower. Does anyone recognize the leaf?
