Reg's Story

Life Married (we just passed our 56nd wedding anniversary). Joyce (nee Denham) attended South and then Tech for art; and I picked her up at a dance at Beck. 3 kids, 5 grandchildren. Retired in 1992. Worked part time in the Ontario government's Intensive Behavioural Intervention program for young children with autism from 2001 to 2009, and just recently "retired" again. As you know, we started with six Grade 9 classes and ended with one Grade 13 class, from which (as I recall) six people went on to university. I never even considered it. However, my older sister, Shirley, had attended Normal School -- the tuition at the time was, I think, $50 -- so I decided to do that. I had been accelerated in elementary school and was far too immature to be a teacher so, although I passed, I didn't pursue teaching. I worked in a drug store for a while, then got a job as a lab technician at Victoria Hospital, in a heart research project. When that contract ran out, I transferred to Physiology and stayed with that job until the grad student that I was working for convinced me to go back to school. I did a mediocre year of pre-med and then worked for the Department of Physics while completing my BA part-time. By that time, I had discovered a passion for psychology. I did an MA, workled for five years, and then went back for a Ph.D. I worked as a psychologist in the Department of health for 10-11 years, and then for Corrections for about 20 years before retiring in 1992. After a few years of private practice, I became interested in autism -- my youngest daughter was worki...Expand for more
ng as an instructor therapist with children with autism and I thought I should know something about the topic. Self-educated in that area, Erinoak (now ErinoakKids, a childrens rehabilitation centre) offered me a job, which I worked at for nine years. Although retired again, I am still supervising a few programs for children with autism -- I can't help trying to keep my hand in. I have also started a blog about Teaching Children with Autism (and a variety of other topics), drawing heavily from my book of the same name, but also rambling on about experiences leading up to that interest. "Tags" attached to the blog (rmreynoldsblog.wordpress.com) are Teaching, Children, Autism, Education, Child Development, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD, Applied Behavior Analysis, ABA, Reg Reynolds, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Tarot, Mysticism, Spirituality, Zen, Christianity, Neuro Linguistic Programming, NLP, Energy Psychology. I think you might enjoy it. Joyce and I moved from Oakville to Burlington in September of 2009, to what is called a bungaloft -- more space on the ground floor and less up above -- better for us "old folks" whose knees don't really like stairs any more. I am lawn bowling in the summer and curling in the winter (but using a stick since I can no longer get down in the hack -- please excuse the curling jargon. About a year ago, I started writing a blog. rmreynoldsblog.wordpress.com It has been so nice of you guys to "drop by." I haven't done much with Classmates since joining a few years ago, but I wouldn't mind getting caught up on your adventures.
