Regina's Story
Life
I was married 18 years, 10 months to a wonderful man named Norman Stewart. He passed away December 16, 2008. I have a wonderful son, Jonathan, who has grown up to be a great man and an awesome father! I also had a precious daughter named Rachel who had multiple handicaps and passed away in March 2000 at age 24. When I married Norman in 1990, I inherited two great stepsons, Jimmy and Boogie (a nickname, he's really a Jr.). I have since acquired three daughters-in-law, Kathy, Jenny and Taffi and we are blessed with four grandchildren: Megan who is 10 (going on 35!), Ryan (was 7 in March 2011) and Max who will be 7 on July 4th! We also have a grandson who will be 3 on June 16. His name is James Griffin Stewart.
School
I loved high school and think of my classmates often. I really enjoyed the band, especially in marching season! Does anyone remember being in Mr Whitaker's Advanced Biology class (I can't remember which year, probably about 67 or 68) around Christmas time. Mr whitalker left the room for a few minutes and we all started singing "Do You Hear What I Hear?". It was beautiful and could be heard all the way down the hall! Does anyone remember Mrs. Vick's history class? and Mr Baker's chemistr...Expand for more
y class, which I passed by the skin of my teeth!! If I remember correctly, all of us but about 3, would have flunked if he hadn't scaled the grades! And who could EVER forget Mrs. Roby's English class and her "do or die" themes. You either got everything right and passed or if you made one mistake, you flunked! Aaahhh, those were the good old days---the simple life!!
Workplace
During my last year and a half of nursing school, I worked as a Nursing Assistant in the Cardiovascular Nursery (with babies who had heart surgery). They had a night position available when I graduated, so I took it. I worked in the CV Nursery and on the Pediatric CV unit for 22 years (until August 2004). I fell at exercise class and broke my wrist badly. After 3 months of healing, I wasn't able to do patient care anymore so the Director of the CV Division (bless her heart!) heard about a position in the Quality Resources and JCAHO Deprtment and I interviewed for it and got it. So that's where I am now, 8 hours a day Monday-Friday, no holidays or weekends! and a day job at that!! After working nights for 22 years, that was quite a change! But I love what I do and enjoy it most of the time!!
Retired from UAB Nursing June 30, 2019.
