Reid's Story
Life
Attended Naval Academy 1964-68. Commissioned in Marine Corps 1968-89. Two tours in VietNam; first with U.S. Marines (69-70), second with VietNamese Marines (72-73). Various command tours with infantry, reconnaissance, training, and headquarters companies in RVN, Okinawa, Hawaii, and CONUS from 69-77. Naval Postgraduate School 77-79; MS in electrical engineering. Returned to USNA to teach EE from 79-82. Regimental/brigade staff and infantry battalion command tours from 83-87 at 29 Palms CA (high desert). Retired from active duty in 89 at U.S. Central Command. Remained at CENTCOM as military analyst during Desert Shield/Storm (89-92). Subsequent assignments as military analyst/site manager at Special Operations Command and European Command, returning in 94 to CENTCOM and remaining through '04. Deployed to multiple countries/forward operating bases in southwest Asia supporting Operations Enduring/Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF). Interesting, challenging, rewarding assignments. for global program providing modeling, simulation, and analysis support for Combatant Commands and Joint Staff from '06-07. '08-09 supported Southern Command with technology experiments intended to ferret out FARC camps in Colombia. '10 Returned to CENTCOM working in Operations supporting OEF/OND (Operation New Dawn).
Married Donna (nee Baker) 1975. Donna working with Hillsborough County schools in Tampa FL for past 17 years. Two children - Ryan (1978) and Lisa (1981). Both graduated University of Florida. Ryan a DIA intelligence planner/analyst at CENTCOM. Already deployed several times to southwest Asia supporting OEF/OIF. Anxious moments at times. Back at CENTCOM now. Lisa, following 2 year Peace Corps assignment in Kenya teaching HIV/AIDS prevention and couple years teaching high school in Tampa, just graduated as Doctor of Physical Therapy. Donna and I volunteered to be her training aids during grad work; remain her primary patients. Proud parents; count our blessings every day.
