Renee's Story

New Life Update: I have great news-I am going to be Roxie Hart in the musical "Chicago" in November at the Opera House. I beat out some younger girls 33 and 24 at call backs. So I am feeling really good about being 51 and still doing this! You can go to Northland Players website Cheboygan to see me in my get up! Its 11-6 & 7 and 13 & 14. So busy! I live in Cheboygan, Michigan.Up near the Mackinac Bridge. How did I get up here, it's a long story. I am married and have a son, Jace, who is 23 and 2 step daughters, 24 and 20.I married for the 1st time in 1978 and ended in divorce in 1988,but I have a great son out of the marriage.I worked in Dallas after graduation and lived in Maybank on a farm with my first husband. I was a operations manager for a stock brokerage firm down there. In 1987, I went on vacation up here and met a man and he brought me up here in June of 1988.I lived with him off and on for 5 years. Long story, too.I met my current husband in 1993.We were married in 1996.My mother died in June of 2006. She survived a lot, tough lady, heart attack, cancer and finally parkinson's disease took her after 3 painful years of being unable to move. My Father took care of her everyday and refused to let her go to a nursing home. After her death, he kinda gave up and died unexpectedly of a heart attack in January of 2007. They were married 53 years and I guess he just missed her. They never left Mesquite. My brother, Bobby,(Class of 1974)moved up here in February of 2008 with my son.He has had a lot of physical problems over the years.Heart Attack at 29, Tumor the size of a softball at 30.He almost died.So now I have a full house! My son recently, for the first time brought home a girl, and it looks serious. Maybe marriage and grandbabies finally. I am the only person I know, at 50!!!, who is not a grandparent up here.I am a legal secretary and have been for the past 20 years.I do a lot of acting up here in Community Theater at the Opera House and Dinner Theaters up near the Mackinac Bridge.I have done murder mysterys on Mackinac Island with a Chicago touring company and actually have been paid for it!I am on the Board of Directors for both the Follies, which we put on a charitable show each year to benefit different organizations, and the Northland Players. I still love being on the stage after all these years. My mom used to always bring popcorn to the drama club.I wish she could have come up here to see me.Just sent her videos to watch. Still love to dance too. Being a pacesetter started that I guess. We have a home that we actually built from the bottom up on five a...Expand for more
cres with a creek running through the property. It is truly beautiful up here, but hate the snow!Always will.We snowmobile, but I wear mega clothes.I am now a bow hunter and actually climb up trees and sit in the cold waiting for elusive white tail deers. Smelled a bear and saw one from a distance. One attacked our bird feeder! We also golf in the summer.I run the Friday Nights Couple League.Summer is short here, but never hot.(Well the people here think its hot when it gets 90!)In the winter, we bowl in a league after hunting season. Not much else to do, except wear layers of clothes and bundle up on the couch to watch tv and pray winter leaves in April.Usually here until May!Then in September it starts to get chilly at night.Fall changing of the colors is amazing.People take bus tours from down below to see it. There is also a train that people take up across near Canada(less than 2 hours from here to Sault Ste Marie,Canada and the bridge to cross over.)I finally posted some pictures. Class of 1976!!!I had to wait until after the March Dinner Theater. Now I am getting ready for the Follies on April 21st we start rehearsing, so I will not be writing much until after May 9th.I am truly amazed by the people I have heard from and the people I have found. You think that you will be best friends forever, then life takes a new course and the people who knew evertyhing about you are just gone one day. It is nice to find out what happened in their lives. I even heard from someone who grew up with me on Palm Drive and went to Range Elementary. We used to have football games in a neighbor's yard and all the kids on the street got involved.I was the only girl who played, but it was great fun and really brought back happy memories. I found Cathy Franzina, my bestest friend, who I spent practicaly everyday with, and Laura Wieding, who was my best friend in 3rd grade and wrote for me, when I broke my arm!!Cathy, Laura and I went everywhere together growing up. In High School, Laura found love and that left me and Cathy alone to pursue other interests! I saw that Theresa Thurman and Cindy Benavides on here, but have heard from neither one. I also spent a lot of time with them and miss talking to them. I was in the storage and dug up our annual and found tons of letters from Cathy and Cindy B. when they went off to college. (I am a pack rat. I have a trailer and a storage shed full of boxes of stuff.)Like I said, you feel like these people will be with you forever and poof, their gone. Hope everyone is well and hope to hear from more people to find out what's happened to them.
