Renee's Story
Life
I've been writing full time since 2003. My essays and short stories have appeared in, or placed in competitions sponsored by, Narrative Magazine, Glimmer Train, Literal Latte, Writer’s Digest, and elsewhere. I’m also the author of two novels, The Bridge at Valentine, which Larry McMurtry called “…very original and very appealing,” (and which the city of Woodland, CA, named their community novel in 2014), and The Plume Hunter, which received outstanding endorsements from members ...Expand for more
of the national birding community. I have worked as a newspaper columnist and reporter, and have volunteered at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, in South Texas, and at Folsom Zoo Sanctuary, in Folsom, CA.
I was married to classmate Steve Thompson for 45 years, and am sad to share that he died of cancer in November 2018. My black Lab Donner keeps me company, as do my three grandsons--mega tornadoes in miniature bodies. I am devoted to birds, mammals, and the people I love.
