Renee's Story

Life Ms. Renée Stroud established her company Sterling Enterprises LLC and became a franchise owner for Sun Ovation Homes, a retailer of manufactured homes, in January 2005. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, she served as the Deputy Director of the U.S. European Command/Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe from October 2003 – January 2005. She provided legislative program continuity across a diversified command with an area of responsibility for 91 countries and territories - from the northern most tip of Norway, to the southern most tip of Africa. During the past 27 years, Ms. Stroud has served in numerous staff and executive positions within the military, Federal government and industry specializing in Public Affairs, Media Relations and Congressional Affairs. She began her career in 1977 as a U.S. Army Information Specialist (Journalist) and a member of the Women’s Army Corps. She was assigned to Fort McClellan, AL; Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN; and 3rd Armored Division (Spearhead), Frankfurt, then-West Germany. Specialist Five Stroud was honorably discharged in 1981 but remained in Frankfurt as a civil servant until 1985. She served twice (1995 and 2003) as the Chief, Congressional Affairs for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC), advising senior leadership on the status of the Command’s Congressional Affairs. thin the business development organization for Raytheon Systems Company after they merged with Hughes Aircraft Company in 1998. Prior to that, she was Manager for External Communications/Media Relations at Hughes Aircraft Company, where she managed the executive communications and media relations for the Chairman and President, respectively beginning in 1996. As the editor of The Eagle, she oversaw the production of a weekly military newspaper highlighting the activities of Fort Belvoir, the largest U.S. military installation in the Military District of Washington. In 1989, Ms. Stroud returned to Frankfurt, Germany. She served as Command Information Officer and editor of The Frankfurt Chronicle newspaper. In 1991, she deployed to Northern Iraq (Operation Provide Comfort) to provide photojournalism and media support. Ms. Stroud’s professional affiliations include the Women in the Military Memorial (Charter Member). She is proudest of having been inducted into the U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery’s Ancient Order of Saint Barbara in 2004 -- a military honor afforded few civilians. She holds many military and civilian awards and decorations. She is one of nine National Partners for the state of Florida for Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), a member of the Florida Manufactured Housing Association, and the Apopka (FL) Chamber of Commerce and a Notary for the State of Florida. Ms. Stroud has two adult children and two grandchildren who live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. She resides in Windermere, Florida.
