Rex's Story

Life I am living in the Los Angeles area with my wife of 8 years, Tracie. I have no children due to the fact that I'm still enjoying my own childhood with no end in sight. I did one enlistment in the Air Force and have been lucky enough to have visited and/or lived in the Far East and Europe many times over. I was 30 years old when I finally found a profession that could keep my attention. I worked on tv & film crews for 13 years before leaving that industry behind to enter the gaming industry as a poker dealer... and...as usual...counting the days to next KISS show!! oh yeah...and the next World Cup!! School Kindegarten - 6th Grade I lived a pretty sheltered life at Madison Elementary in San Gabriel, California. I enjoyed my time there. Friday kickball, after-school sports, flag salute, the Indian Dances, the X-mas play, the carnivals, playing marbles, 6th grade softball game against the faculty, field days...I was lucky enough to have Karen Calder as my teacher for 3rd & 4th grades. I feel the same about having Diane Harper for 5th & 6th. They taught with similar styles, were stern enough to create a healthy fear of getting into trouble without being too strict, and knew how to let us have fun like watching the Dodger playoff games during class time. 7th Grade I was at Naylor JH in Tucson, Arizona. I made a couple of good friends there...David Blackstone and Jeff(can't remember his last name). Roller skating on Friday nights and winning a Little League championship were some great times. It was also here where I realized how good I had it in San Gabriel. I was exposed to gangs & violence for the first time. This was the only time I would ever really hate going to school. I would also be introduced to my one and only teacher who would be insanely strict and condescending...even to those of us that never deserved it. I was glad to only have to be there for 1 year. 8th Grade Back to LA and Oak Avenue JH in Temple City, California. I was back with my best friends from elementary school so good times were had. We must have spent a lifetime playing Dungeons & Dragons...what a blast that was!! Not to mention the hours down at the local arcade spending our allowances!! The school itself was fun and positive. My favorite teacher here was Mr. Gomez who taught Social Studies. Oh yeah....Expand for more
..the Friday Warball games were the most fun that I ever had in all of my school years!! 9th Grade Now I was overseas with my Air Force dad in Incirlik, Turkey. My experience at Incirlik American HS was amazing. There were only 150 students here and that included the 7th & 8th grades. For the first time, I was in a smalltown atmosphere and I loved it. Everyone knew everyone, and we all stuck together. The weekend sports trips to the other schools were the greatest experiences. My life was pretty hard for a 14 yr old spoiled American brat(no MTV, no TV, no McDonald's, no arcade, electricity constantly going out, no family car, no central heating & A/C, walking to school in the mud)...but in the end...after I grew up a bit...it was entirely educational. 10th thru 12th Grade Back to California and the high desert town of Edwards AFB. I loved my time at Desert HS. I was a baseball player, a X-Country runner and a Track runner. I was able to glide thru with friends in most groups...the stoners, the athletes and the honor students. Days at the bowling alley, foosball at the youth center, ping-pong at the rec center, Friday night football games and dances, space shuttle landings, spirit weeks(and as I recall...the class of '86 won most of those!!), pep rallies, rooters buses, movies at the base theater, going to the Boulevard in Lancaster(snicker, snicker), shooting baskets at Derrick's house and the hundreds of miles of running out there in the desert. My favorite teachers here were Mrs. Payne, who taught Algebra and Geometry, and Mrs. Cox, who taught English. I still love the story of A Tale Of Two Cities. There were 2 teachers that I rather disliked at the time, but(again after growing up a bit) would later come to greatly respect...Debbie Lewis, Biology, and Carolyn McGowan, English. They were both a little too strict for my taste at the time, but in the end, were both great teachers!! College I was 27 years old when I decided to go to college. I had chosen not to heed the starting gun before 10 years had got behind me. I proved to myself that I could juggle 2-4 jobs, party when I wished and still get an Associates Degree with a 3.9 GPA in 5 semesters. I loved the experience...but that was because I was older, had already seen the world...and most of all... I wanted to be there.
