Rhonda Boatner:

CLASS OF 1981
North bend, OR

Rhonda's Story

I began my days as a "Bulldog" the first day of school of my freshman year, as I had just moved to Oregon from New Mexico at the beginning of my freshman year. It was hard, since I knew absolutly no one there. I was the "odd man out" in the Band since I played the cello, so during football season I played the xylophone. I guess school was okay but there was the one person, who from day one, did not like me. Unfortunatly I had her in one class every year. Could never figure it out, but that was okay since I had made friends with others, mostly those who I attended church with, although they were from the Class of 82. My freshman, sophomore year I delievered the paper, The World, to the neighborhood around the Jr/High School and up to the A&W. My Jr year I got involved in drama and choir and was in the play, Rumplestlltskin. Now in the fall of 79, is when I met my future husband. We started dating in 80, and were married in July of 80, oh and no, we did not get married because I was pregnant. sferred to Seattle in November and so, I did not get to graduate with our class of 81. I did continue with school and graduated in 1981. We lived in Seattle for a year and then transferred to Port Angeles. In 1984, we moved back to Oregon and just tried to figure out what we wanted to do. We eventually settled in Tigard and I went back to school in 89. In 93 I received my AA in Accounting and Business. In 94 we welcomed our son, and only child into our lives and moved to Oregon City in 99. In 2008, I got caught up in the housing market implosion and was laid off. I was out of work for over a year, so started back to school in 2009 at Warner Pacific College and I am working on my Bacholer's in Accounting and in Business. I will fininsh in Nov 2011 and graduation will be in December. I was able to get temporary work for the whole year on 2010, but am now unemployed again. Our son will be 17 in March and we will celebrate our 31st anniversary in July. What is really "ironic" is that I will graduate from college 30 years after I graduated from high school and 6 months before our son graduates from high school.
