Rhonda's Story
Okay, here it is in a nutshell. Unfortunately I had to battle addiction during the later parts of high school until I was 22. Did rehab and have been sober since. During my rehab I got a job at Grand Auto on Jackson Street in Hayward and worked in the store as a Manager for seven years. I noticed a clerical job opening in the warehouse in 1997 and jumped on it. First I worked directly for the warehouse manager and supervisors. It was great. Then in 2000 we found out that Grand Auto was being sold off to Kragen. At that time I was the Admin to the Regional VP. You wouldn't have believed my office. It was huge and furnished all in mahogony and was beautiful with huge windows that overlooked a koi pond and gorgeous patio. As the October sell date approached I interviewed with the Kragen people and was placed in a Maintenance Supervisor position with an office located in Livermore. Fortunately it was only a seventeen minute drive from my home that I purchased in Hayward in 1996.
I HATED that job. Put out several resumes and got interviews with the CA State Family and Child Commission as well as a CAT dealer called Peterson Power in San Leandro. The CA job was going to take at least 8 weeks to fill but the offered an excellent salary and benefits. I went back to Peterson and represent...Expand for more
ed the offer I had received and they more than matched it. I went to work for Peterson, learning about engines, power generators, providing quotes, engineering and major invoicing ($1,000,000+).
After my kids came in 2001 and 2004 I worked part-time, still with my great salary. In 2006 I was laid off due to budget junk, probably because I wanted part-time only.
Since then I've been a stay-at-home-mom. In June, 2010 my family moved to Brentwood to stay in a house my mom bought for me. I still own my home in Hayward and rent it out. We plan to sell in 2012. Life is good. I am so thankful that I'm allowed to be with my kids and be involved in their schools. I've made several good friends in the past year, as well and hanging onto the ones from Hayward. Susan Forsyth lives just down the street from my house in Hayward.
I've been devastated by a lot of loss over the past five years. My high school boyfriend, several classmates, my dear friend Stephanie Malcewicz, by like-a-brother David and long time family friend Sharon Durham have all passed on. Can't believe it.
I hope that all out there are doing well. I really consider myself so lucky. Life could have been so different.
PS...Aaron Runolfson needs to make things right. He's been a really bad friend and knows it. BURN! hah-hah!
