Rich's Story

I graduated from Trenton State College in 1974. It took a little extra time to get out of Mercer County College. Never did like those science courses. I was a much better college student than I was a high school student. Thank goodness. In November '76, I married Verna- Lynne Welch, SHS class of 1971. We have 3 children. Heather, and twins Courtney and Kevin. We have a granddaughter, Sophia and a grandson, Ewan. I retired from The Department of Human Services/Division of Family Development in November 2012 after 34 and 1/2 years. My wife retired in July 2012 after 37 years with the NJ State Police. I may have the distinction of living the closest to Steinert. My backyard borders the Lacrosse field. I've played softball since high school and I'm currently playing in the and the Bucks County 65 and Over Softball League. I attended the 45th reunion last September, which was my first reunion. Some people I easily recognized, but others I had no clue. As a result of that, if you recognized me, but it looked like I ignored you, I apologize for the unintended snub. n extremely mild case. On 1/30/21, I tested negative. I consider myself to be very lucky. My worst symptoms were a severe lack of stamina, and simple things took a lot of effort. When I was born, my mother was 45 and my father was 53. I had a brother who was 21 and serving in the U. S. Navy, and a sister who was 19 and attending Trenton State. Fast forward to the early 70s. My sister and her husband and son were vacationing on LBI. I went down to visit, and while I was there, we drove to the lighthouse. At one point, my sister and I were in the store near the lighthouse. A man came up and grabbed my arm. When I turned to see who it was, Mr. Caffrey was standing there. We greeted each other, and I introduced Caf to my sister. They got talking and found out they both were at Trenton State at the same time. Upon further discussion, they realized they were supposed to have gone on a blind date with each other, but for some reason, it did not take place. I can only imagine what might have happened if they'd gone on the date. As a sad update to my story, my sister passed away on Father's Day this year. She was 91.
