Rich's Story
Life
Enrolled in Ohio Inst of Tech in Columbus (now DeVry) in 1/81. Dropped out after first year of 2 year AA program in CS in 1/82. Enlisted in Marine Corps in 5/82 and joined 1st Bn, 6th Mar, Weapons Co, Dragon Platoon. Deployed Okinawa for 3rd MarDiv rotation, stationed at Camp Schwab in 1/83-6/83. Promoted to PFC. Rotated back to Lejeune. Transferred from Dragon Platoon to Weapons Co company office to fill recently-vacated company clerk position. Promoted to Lance Corporal. Deployed at last minute to Honduras to fill commitment vacated by 2ndBn, 6thMar when they were sent to relieve 1stBn, 8thMar. Second rotation to Okinawa, stationed at same barracks as first trip to Camp Schwab. Rotated back to Lejeune. Promoted to Corporal and transferred to Bn HQ, S3 Clerk. Discharged 4/86, one month early as my MOS's both fell inside the specifications for an early out per newly passed Gramm-Rudman Debt Relief act of '86. Came home and went...Expand for more
to work for my father, operating a gas station until 1987. Met Barbara 4/86, married her 7/87. Worked for Fairhaven Industries as QC Clerk for a year. Worked for Michigan Hand Rehab Center for 4 years as Transcriptionist. Son Thomas John born 11/89. Worked for Emergency Dictation Center as Transcriptionist for 4 years. Divorced Barbara 3/95. Began side work for attorney and insurance agent friends doing computer consulting. Worked for EKB Micro for 1-1/2 years. Met Karen Jaworski 2/98. Bought my house in Warren 6/98. Karen sold her house and moved in with me in 7/99. Took full-time custody of Thomas by informal agreement with Barbara in 12/99. Currently working for MBM Computer System Solutions as a Senior Service Technician doing telephony equipment/computer/network and printer installation/repair with experience in MS DOS/Win3.1/95/98, learning Win2k and Linux and multiple hardware platforms. Happily settled in our home in Warren.
