Richard's Story

Hello all, After H.S. and an unsuccessful year at college, I kicked around on L.I.for 6-7 years with many jobs, mostly as a restaurant manager, and then as owner. I left L.I. in 1971 and came to Schenectady, N.Y. I've been here ever since. In 1970 I learned there was a way to become a licensed attorney in N.Y.S. by passing the bar exam., without college or law school. One needed to work four years as a law clerk in a private law office. That made me eligible to take the bar exam. Knowing no one in Schenectady, I found a job as a clerk, worked the four years ('72-'76), took and passed the bar exam. recent years I've been interested in something called collaborative law. Judi Pace (H.H.S. '62) and I married in 1965 and had a son, John, in 1973. John died Sept.14, 2013 of addiction/mental illness. Judi and I divorced in 1982. In 1987 I met the love of my life, Joyce Empie. We married in 1992 and have been together ever since. Joyce has three children. We have six grandchildren, 11 to 19 years old. Joyce has retired as a yoga teacher of 30 years and as a college academic adviser. I still work about 3/4 time. We're both mostly healthy. We travel quite a bit. Enough for now. P.S check out "The Invitation" by Oriah Mountain Dreamer, I love it. - Richard
