Richard's Story

Life For the past 29years I have been in retail management working for Douglas Drug which after ten years was sold to Maxi Drug who bought Brooks Pharmacy three years later and then was to Rite Aid Pharmacy. Yes, the wonderful world of retail! I love working with people and I have always been involved with retail since I was a child helping out in the family business that my Dad had started when I was about 5 years old. So I quess it has always been in my blood. It's funny how life can take you in directions you never thought about. When I graduated from college in 1974 I was hoping to go on to Grad school for a Masters in Public Administration with hopes of someday getting a job with the State Department. That all changed when I got married and children were born. I have no regrets about anything that has happened in my life because they all brought me to today! I am married for the third time and very happy. My wife and ex wives all get along which makes family get-togethers fun. I have two children from my first marriage, one from my second marriage, and a stepdaughter...Expand for more
from my third marriage. I have two daughters and a son along with my step-daughter. They are all out on their own now and all doing well. Oh, and as of now (2010) I have 5 grandchildren, three grandsons and two granddaughters. Over the years my work consumed a lot of my time. Working retail is not a career that gives you a lot of free time, working weekends and holidays and being on call 24/7 when you are the manager of a business for a large Corporation. This past June(2010) I lost my job after working for 29 years for the same business. Companies these days are trying to find ways to cut costs and payroll and benefit expenses are an easy way to do that. There is no loyalty when it comes to big business. Being unemployed right now at my age is not going to be easy. I have been on a few interviews and even though they say my qualifications are impressive it always results in them choosing someone in their prime. So now I am exploring my options and may even go back to school to get that Masters Degree in Public or Business Administration. to be continued...

The beginning of a great night..
I believe it was in September of 2016 when some of the principle people involved with the movie "Lizzie" came and stayed the night at 92 Second St. I was fortunate enough to have been their host and tour guide that night. —
