Carol's Story

The greatest accomplishment of my life is our children. I was fortunate and blessed to have raised 3 productive, educated, well adjusted children, each with a strong faith, and belief in themselves, and my 13 beautiful grandchildren with their lists of accomplishments. My second greatest accomplishment is my marriage to their Dad for 46+ years. All the other stuff in between was just necessary for survival. I have a BS in Counseling and certificaton in Drug and Alcohol Counseling and several other counseling certifications. I was a counselor and later the Director of an outpatient drug and alcohol treatment center spanning nearly 25 years. Though retired these past 14 years I continue to use my skills with-in our parish for couples in extreme marital stress related to grief and loss, domestic violence and addiction. The most "fun" thing I did was a live, call in radio talk show in Seattle. I was on the air 2 hours a night 5 nights a week for a little more then 5 years. It was just plain fun. When I retired I left everything behind and my husband and I moved to the area we had chosen for retirement as early as 1980. It was a wonderful choice! I am a rabid conservative and promote the republican agenda and conservatism when ever possible. Though there are a few conservative issues that I am less rabid about then most conservatives. We love animals and have had in the past, horses, llamas, cows, pigs, sheep, dogs, cats, birds, ducks and what ever happened to wander in with the kids. Presently we have our dog, Dusty and a parrot named Patty. We would have a cat or two but our life style makes it diffic...Expand for more
ult to travel with or leave cats so we have chosen not to replace our beloved Boris who shared his life with us for 17+ years. We are devout Traditional Catholics and very active in our parish. I am an avid gardener and I love taking pictures of my flowers. Some are posted here. Over all these years, since we were 10 or 11, Nancy Bernier and I have kept and nurtured a close very meaningful friendship. There are reasons, but few of you would remember the trauma some of us endured and survived during the spring of the 8th grade. For those of us who do remember, reunions are often salted with those memories as well as the crazy, fun, joyful and on occassion outrageous memories of high school. I remember a slumber party in the 10th that made the front page of the Press Courier and caused a search of El Rio. How funny that was, in retrospect of course. Fortunately, life time groundings, and loss of phone privileges only lasted a few weeks in those days. My favorite quote: When Michael Angelo was asked how he had carved David into the stone he replied, "I didn't carve David into the stone, I only took away that which was not David." My life time goal is to take away that which is not me. Well I am sure that revealed more then most care to see. My wish for you; have a glorious, peaceful and blessed day. Remember, life is a gift, yesterday is gone, tomorrow isn't here yet and only the present exist. Cherish your memories, your authentic moments, live, love, express, and make yourself a present for everyone you see, meet and talk to today! It is really all you have to give. My most sincere regards, Carol
