Richard's Story

Life At the age of 10, I started boating with my father and uncle. I bought my first boat when I was 14, and have owned at least one ever since. It has become my passion and a driving force in my daily life. I have been heavily involved in volunteer and non-profit organizations for many years, all connected, in some way, to boating and boating safety, especially the waters of Lake Mead. My vast knowledge of Lake Mead and it's hazards have helped me become an extremely valuable member of the National Park Service Volunteer In Park program. r Assistance programs. I take pride in the fact I am helping the public, and have been directly involved in many lifesaving search and rescue efforts. I very much enjoy assisting the visitors and employees of Lake Mead National Recreation Area. So much so, I decided about 4 years ago to live on my boat full time, which puts me in a position to respond to emergencies on the water much faster, usually making me the first on scene, to aide sick and injured parties, and/or organize and guide other responders coming by water or air, which can be essential in lifesaving efforts in an area the size of Lake Mead.
