Richard's Story

Life Shortly after I graduated high school in Jan of '76, I went to work for North American Van Lines. That was cool because I got to see a lot of the country (east coast and mid-west), and get paid at the same time. I married (Jodi Hood), in November of '76 (we graduated together), and we had our first of 4 children in May of '77, just read, you don't need to try and do the math. Amity is 26, Riva and Seth (twins, it was the only way I could get a boy), are 22 and Alyssa is 20. Anyhow, I went to work for an aluminum extrusion company in 1978 and have been with them ever since. They closed the plant I worked at in Indiana in 2002 and my wife and I moved to southern Arkansas where I transfered with the company. Somehow dry counties still exist down here and we found one. Trust me, the county may be dry but our apartment isn't. We're "empty nesters" here, feels good too! We have 2 grandchildren, Gavin is 6 (Amity's) they live in Tennessee, and McKenzie is 3 (Riva's) they live in Indiana. Now you can do the math, that's right, I am a very young grandpa.... smile. We're 11 minutes from a lake that we can enjoy fishing and swimming in, I don't know what they feed the fish down here but they didn't grow like this in Indiana. I'm just now learning to hunt, I'm like Barney though, I leave with one bullet and come back ...Expand for more
with it too. The climate is much closer to what we prefer here. That's it I guess for now, drop me an e-mail sometime. Workplace I'm working for Alcoa right now, but if you know anything about the aluminum industry Alcoa bought up the world a few years ago. I actually worked for Alumax for most of my years then Alcoa bought them out. I started as an hourly worker in '78 and became a supervisor in '85. I've certainly done my share of 60-80 hour work weeks and loved them (and hated them too). Now I'm working them 45 hour weeks and trying to learn what to do with myself with the spare time. I'll find things to do though....... 'cause if I don't my wife will. I'm looking forward to working the rest of my life here, but I'm not nieve enough to believe that it's a shoe in. Life sure has changed over the years for all of us and businesses have to do the same, and as I have already witnessed, this one may not be here till I retire like I would like for it to be. But I'm sure that on my worst day, there are many in this world who's best day was never as good. I've seen California to Niagra Falls with this company and met a lot of special people over all the years. I consider myself one of the lucky ones in life and I hope I'm never selfish with what I have that may be able to help someone else gain in their life.
