Richard's Story
As a youngster I attended schools in both Chama, NM and in Pagosa Springs, CO.
My family (Dad, Mom,and brother Billy) moved from Chama, NM to Oregon in the late Fall 1960. I did not reenroll in school there so was a Junior year droupout. I joined the US Army in Dec. 1961. The Army was good to and for me. Through a battery of aptitude/talent tests the Army put me into an intensive high tech. training program which resulted in me being placed into a classified air defense system as a repair/maintainence technician. I also got my GED while serving in the Army.
I was married in February 1962. After discharge from the Army in late 1964, I was employed with Western Electric (an AT&T company) as a telephone equipment installer and remained at that job for 30 years. Over those years my wife Willa and I had 3 children. We remained in Northwestern Oregon for many years.
After AT&T I worked six years as a Telcom and Data tec...Expand for more
hnician with a Company contracted to Intel in Beaverton, Oregon.
I worked another three years as an independent IT technician on my own. Then I semi-retired and took up commercial embroidery in partnership with my wife Willa. We still do that on a limited basis and I also refurbish old (tube type) radios and other collectable electronic gear on a case by case basis. We live in Western Montana now, a place where the pace of life is more relaxed than on the West Coast.
We have two classic cars which we play with and show in Summer.
We have five Grand Children and now have three Graet Grand Children. Willa and I have been together for 48 years now.
We enjoy connecting with friends. The old friends we knew in the Fiftys and Sixtys are special to us. We miss the simpler, more caring, more moral lifestyle of those years. Besides the cars were more fun then, all different and made in America. Too bad we lost all that.
