Richard's Story

My wife Linda and I are both Doctors of Chiropractic at our home-practice, Absolute Chiropractic, in Burlington, WA. I have one married Son, Ryan & his Swiss wife Sonja, who are now at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA. He is finishing his MPA (Masters degree in Performing Arts) there. I have one surviving daughter, Robin, who is on kidney dialysis, and is married to Kevin Teske, with one Granddaughter, Meranda, who is a High School Senior & all live in Torrington, WY. My oldest Daughter Shelly was killed by a drunk driver in an auto accident when she was a Senior at Torrington H.S. My wife Linda has two Sons, Bill Patton, who is a Captain in the WYARNG and is a full-time Officer working in Casper, WY. (He is single) and John Patton who in April, married his Fianc`ee Sarah, a Physicians Assistant, and they now reside in Milwaukee, WI. (we're hoping for Grandchildren). We are very active in our church, Christ The King, in Burlington, WA. My sister Charlotte suffered a stroke and is now in the assisted living unit at Torrington, and my Brother-in-law LeRoy Johnson, still lives in Yoder, WY. My niece Janet is employed at Eastern Wyoming College and her husband, John Jenkins, works at St. Joseph Children's Home. Both still live in Yoder, WY. Jodean Hickman, my other niece of Kimball, NE lost her battle with cancer this past year. She is survived by her husband, Dave Hickman, her Son, Jason Hickman, and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Son Jeff Hickman. My nephew, Mike Johnson lives with his family and works at Wilson Trailer Mfg. in Yankton, SD. I always wanted to be a Airline Pilot when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a wonderful idea. As it turns out, they were all wrong. Linda and I are avid cruisers and love to travel. One of the wildest things I recall doing in school was putting Sulfurdioxcide in the girls restroom, which caused quite a stink! e price for the freedoms we all enjoy and take for granted. Amen? I have visited every State in the Union, and lived in Yoder, WY; Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; Ft. Riley KS; Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD; Ft McClellan, AL; Camp Roberts CA; Ft. Ord, CA; Ft. Lee, VA; Camp San Luis Obispo, CA; Twentynine Palms MCB, CA; Norfolk Naval Station, VA; Reno, NV; Rapid City, SD; San Leandro, CA; Spartanburg, SC; and Burlington, WA. After 31 1/2 yrs. I am retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel, Ordnance Corp. My current age is 68. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be dead. I was so completely mistaken. If I had known then, that I would live so long, I would have taken much better care of myself. My best friends would tell you I'm a little crazy, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as a raving lunatic. My wife and I share our home with a dog named Ginger and a cat named mew-mew, which we find most amusing. If I could get one do-over, I would have found the Lord much earlier in life. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is the reason for living! If you want to know more, just ask. I think this fact would surprise most everyone who knew me when we were in school. Thankfully, we serve a God of second chances. My first job was on a farm, where I got paid 75 cents/hr. to stack hay. What I remember most about it is - it was hot, it was hard work, and it sucked! My earliest schoolboy memory was swinging-out on the Marry-go-round... and it got to going so fast, that I couldn't hold on; and as my cold fingers gave-way, I found myself being hurled backwards, face down, with my nose plowing a furrow in the frozen playground gravel. I still carry a scar on my face today as a life-long reminder of that fateful event. I still have a warm spot in my heart for my Schoolgirl Sweetheart, Julia Martin. I'm sorry she had to leave us so soon. But my comfort is knowing that she is home now, in a much, much better place, and that I will again see her there.
