Richard's Story

Truthfully. While at South Dade I couldn’t wait to get out. I later regretted not paying more attention in English Grammar classes…After High School, I trained to be a Radio DJ working at several small stations on air working upwards to large radio stations and bigger cities and was the Mid-Day DJ on the 1984 ACM Country Music “Radio Station of the year”.. Later I was on the air at night on a 50,000 watt station heard in 28 states at night.. Exciting and rewarding work, however living from one “Ratings” quarter to another was too much with two small daughters at home to provide for and a need for a more stable life..I later drove 48 state trucking for a few years because it paid well,..I literally have seen the entire USA several times over. .I finished my working career at age 62 after 16 years as a BNSF Railroad Freight Train crewman mostly working on 'over the road' trains from Needles, California to Winslow, Arizona..( YES, “ Standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona" as in the Eagles song " Take It Easy")... There is a Corner in Winslow with a Statue and " A FLAT BED FORD" parked there...If your ever out west... I lived in f...Expand for more
ar western Arizona for 15 years only 90 miles south of Las Vegas..I’ve since retired and moved to Manchester, Tennessee, It’s where my family is originally from … My good friends at South Dade were Rick Maxwell and brothers, Robert Melton, Robert Babcock, Roy Brown, Curtis Moore, Alan Butler and Steve Borek where I worked on his dads farm summers and after school driving 'tractors and trucks' long before I had to take Drivers Ed at South Dade.. Imagine my typical teen smart aleck attitude at having to take Drivers Ed ! Linda Rabe and several other girls were friends as well, However during my years at South Dade I exclusively dated Valerie Rust..She is pictured in the 1973 junior class photos…. I truly miss the days of the former Homestead that no longer exist .It was a golden time of classic Americana with the small drive-ins ,Cruising Krome Ave. to see people and gather long before Social Media…I MISS the many Avacado groves, U-Pick vegetable fields, Packing houses, the large farm fields and Homestead Air Base as it was....and base housing where I lived several years (1113 b California Ave).. Contact me when you can…Thanks !
