Richard's Story

After graduation I received my Airplane Pilots License (Certificate), went in the U.S. Marines repaired and flew on Helicopters. I can tell you this; I hated every second in the Marines. There are 86,400 seconds in a day, how do I know that, I was counting them until my discharge. After the Marines I went back to Long Island in 1987 worked at Grumman Aerospace in Calverton. Worked on all that cool stuff that was used in the Gulf Wars. Heavy Metal was still in vogue and hung out with Fred Peritore and his band Assualt allot of bars and beer later. I left Long Island in 1989 for the Seattle area to work at Boeing and I also learned to fly Helicopters I lived in a little town called Goldbar. Anyway I lived in the Seattle area before the music scene exploded in the 90's. In 1989 the music was not as cool as a few years later. I moved to Huntington Beach Orange County California worked at McDonnell Douglas I had fun on test flights of MD80 and MD11 airliner aircraft. California was paradise compared to Seattle, an excellent place to live and learn to surf, I was a regular at Bolsa Chica tower 19 nice break, overhead sets at least once a week. I also surfed the Atlantic Ocean Sea Side NJ and the Pacific Ocean Huntington Beach in the same day. I watched the LA Riots in April of 1992, from cockpit of the helicopter I was flying until they started shooting at Helicopters. In 1993 I left California for Atlanta to work at (now don't laugh) ValuJet Airlines. I was their first employee. Eventually I was in charge of buying aircraft, arranging heavy maintenance and test flights. Then the May 1996 crash some how I got sued for doing my job. Oh well we changed the company name to AirTran I moved to Orlando FL. I got married in 01 to Deborah a beautiful girl I met her in Atlanta she is a Montessory teacher. After a few more years with the airline I left for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) now the irony is, these are the same guys who accused me of the crash 1996. Then about in 2000 they said hey you didn't do it, and we want you to testify against the people who did. Oh now they are my buddies. Well I currently work for the FAA as a Principal Inspector for Certificate Management of a Freight Airline. We have lots of fun in F...Expand for more
