Richard's Story
Although I grew up in Glendale, Arizona, I moved to El Paso, Texas in 1957. My first 3 years of high school were at Ysleta in El Paso. I then moved back to the Phoenix area where I attended Cortez my senior year. After graduation from Cortez in 1963, I attended Arizona State University and graduated in 1969 with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. I picked this major at the suggestion of my high school chemistry teacher at Cortez. It took me 6 years to graduate from ASU due to working part time in my father's air conditioning business. Good excuse and I am sticking with it!
After graduation from ASU, I went to work with Chevron as an entry level engineer in 1969 and worked there until my recent retirement in November 2009 as a Project Manager. I was lucky to be able to live...Expand for more
and work in a variety of locations including: Wyoming, New Jersey, Texas, Florida, California, Nigeria, Angola, Kazakhstan, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Venezuela, China, UK, Italy, Canada, France and Germany.
I married Debra Roatch in 1985 and we celebrated our 25 year anniversary in March 2010! We have 3 children who are currently in university at UC Berkeley, UC Davis and junior college near our current home.
We currently live in Danville, California which is in the San Francisco Bay Area. Someday we may move to Arizona but my wife is from California which pretty much makes me a Californian now.
I retired in late 2009 but decided to hire back as a project management consultant working for Chevron. I found that retirement was a bit boring and I needed the challenge.
