Rick's Story
Life
After leaving high school, I went to LeMoyne College and graduated in 1967 with a BS in Accounting. I then entered the NYARNG and went on active duty for 4 months, during which time, my mom died at the young age of 53 in 1967. After working a couple of jobs, I went to work for Kemper Insurance in 1969 and was there until 1997 when I got downsized. Downsizing was the best career thing that ever happened to me because I then pursued a teaching degree. I married Cathy Zory in 1970 and we have 3 grown children- Megan(husband Ron), David,and Sarah. We have three terrific grandchildren-Nicholas(3) and twins Madison and Mackenzie(1) who live in Waterford,Mich.with parents Megan and Ron. We have lived in the Camillus area since 1972. usly with the West Genesee Wildcat Marching Band as Boosters Chairperson. I obtained my Master's Degree in Teaching in December, 2004 from LeMoyne College.
Workplace
I spent 28 years working for Kemper Insurance as a commercial property underwriting specilaist. When I got downsized in 11/97, I entered LeMoyne College's MST program to become an elementary school teacher. I completed my Master's Degree 12/2004 through the writing of a children's book. I used my 3 grandchildren and my inner city teaching experiences to write this book. I presently teach in the Syracuse City School District. I continue to seek new and exciting teaching experiences. I love the challenge of teaching inner city children at my school which has a large bi-lingual population (Hispanic).
