Richard's Story

I started my 2nd family in 2003 and this picture is me, of course, and my twin girls, Cameron and Chloe. They were born in '03. I retired from San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station in San Clemente in 2005 so I could raise them while my wife, Lisa, pursued her career as a surgical nurse. I was a superviser at SONGS from 1991 until I retired. Prior to that I worked for SCE as a whse spvsr in Rialto as well as a line crew grunt in Redlands, San Bernardino, and Ontario. I'm working backwards now to 1980 when my 2nd wife and our 3 children moved from a dairy farm in Sun Prairie, Wis back to southern California. I'd been farming my own place since 1973 when Melinda came from Hawaii (we'd met in Balboa in 1970) to marry me in 1974. At that time Melinda had a son and I had a daughter. By 1976 we had another daughter. I worked harder than I should have at farming and nearly lost my family. Changing occupations meant I could keep them for awhile longer. (...been married 4 times) After high school (I'm 1967 grad) I bounced around a little, went to S.F. to visit my sister and help get COs to Canada and then married too young and started climbing...Expand for more
poles for SCE in Hunt.Bch. I ran into Jesse and Linda Torres down there and would like to know that they are doing well. I had a child with my first wife who left us pretty soon afterwards. Linda Doan, wherever she is, was living down there and took care of my little girl while I worked. She was a lifesaver. I went on to become a hot apprentice lineman / splicer. I was fired by SCE in 1971 for insubordination involving my political activity. My daughter went to my parents while I kept looking for work. I was homeless, but don't feel sorry for me: I was homeless on the Balboa Peninsula. I know you'll forgive the memory lapses, by '72 or '73 my Uncle had died in Wis.and my aunt was needing a hand. I went out to help her get ready for the winter. Ended up loving it. Got my daughter from my folks and by that Spring I knew what I wanted to do with myself. Obviously, San G. people are reading this. If any of you know or communicate with Ila Swan I'd like to let her know that I still feel bad about not being as good an escort (when she was a senior princess) as I should have been and she deserved better. Always felt bad about that.
