Richard's Story

Life Howdy, I'm living near a small town in Wisconsin, about like Olpe or any of the small towns around Emporia. I'm married (Sandy) and I have two children (Ian and Megan). Sandy grew up in a small town near here. Ian is in 8th grade, Megan is in 6th. We have a small farm and raise European Red deer and Elk. I direct market farm raised venison and also do some market produce, our big product being garlic. Our Farm is certified organic. All the produce we sell is organic and this year I have my first crop of organic deer & elk calves! Sandy teaches K-8 PE and Health at our local school; K-12 all under one roof. We moved up here in '94, from Independence, KS.(down by Coffeyville). I was a hazardous waste technician at one of the major factori...Expand for more
es in Independence. We also owned a small Mexican restaurant in Neodesha. Sandy and I moved to the Independence area in '84 after being in Emporia for a couple of years. We met in Arizona where we both were working at the Grand Canyon. '75 to '80 were pretty much party years, some things I regret, some I don't. We visit Emporia about once a year one or other of us staying home to take care of livestock. I still get a little homesick, for Kansas, in the dead of winter. When we've had a couple monthes of freezing and snow, with a couple of monthes to go. I think about Emporia a lot in summer. I'll be with some people talking about how treacherously hot it is (75-80 degrees), thinking to myself that I wished it was hotter! Rich Richard Hall
