Richard's Story

Update: I''ve just been hired by Caterpillar as a Manufacturing Project Engineer I've been married to my lovely wife Mandy for 15 years and we had our first child Aidan in July of 2007. I have recently moved back to the area after accepting a position as engineering manager with Illinois Machine and Tool Works in Pekin. I am tasked with oversight of all engineering operations pertaining to the manufacturing of products for companies such as Caterpillar, Woodward Governor, John Deer and many others. My job allows me to fulfill every little boy's dreams, I get to play with big machines and cut metal. Lots of fun, Huge - HUUUUGE! I was previously employed by Mistral Aircraft Company. This was an aviation engine company based in Geneva Switzerland. We manufacture rotary aircraft engines. I saw was, because now they are no more! It was a very exciting and promising company that had recently began certification testing for use within the United States. My position was that of test pilot as well as the engine test facility/assembly facility manager. U.S. operations were based in Deland, Florida. Prior to accepting my current position I worked as a research and development supervisor in a prototype machine shop where I was tasked with making everything from liquid-cooled rocket motors, hybrid automotive p...Expand for more
roducts to satellites. My prior life:(read in past tense) In addition to my full-time work, I also operated a successful custom hot rod and motorcycle business, which allowed me to have fun and build some award winning motorcycles and custom cars. hhspeedandmachine.com This became too much once Aidan was born. Its funny how much spare time you think you have prior to your children's arrival, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I have since combined with Wide Open Cycles which freeded up alot of my time. This combination allowed us to team up and build some very interesting creations. Previous to this, I worked for Continental Express Airlines for 6 years during which time I was a captain on the ATR-42 / 72 as well as the EMB 145 regional jet. This life was fun and exciting however; the lifestyle of being gone all the time eventually took its toll and I chose my homelife over my work. I avoided becoming one of the many pilots with 3 or 4 ex-wives. Just prior to receiving the position with the airline, I instructed aspiring pilots in the art of aviation for 3 years after I received my BA degree in aeronautical science. Enough of the boring stuff for now. I would love to hear how the rest of the class is doing so please contact me through my email of richardhedge at hot mail.com. Take care. Rich
