Richard's Story

I live in Decatur, have practiced law in Atlanta for over 38 years and will retire at the end of this year. My wife Laura is a retired Chemistry professor at Georgia State. We have two children, a 26 year old daughter who graduated Georgia, taught English in Madrid for a year, graduated UVA Law and will practice in DC,, and an 21 year old son who studied piano at UT and is teaching music in Atlanta.. When not at the office, I garden, read non-fiction, play some guitar and golf, collect antique maps, and go to board meetings. From Northside I went to UGA for 4 years, then into the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman attached to the Marine Corps (we practiced invading Southern California and successfu...Expand for more
lly defending Southern California from invasion). When I got home Jeff Daniel (Lee Daniel's younger brother) got me a job at Steak & Ale where we made enough money to go to Europe for a few months, after which we both wound up in Denver. He left and I stayed for several years, working construction and making maps for an aerial photography company. I spent a winter working as a millwright in the Red Desert of southwest Wyoming, survived a refinery fire in Commerce City, Colorado, played guitar in a bluegrass band, and generally had a heck of a good time. In 1977 I applied to law school in the two states where I could claim in-state tuition, was accepted at UGA, and 41 years later here I am.
