Richard's Story
Life
After graduating from Cathedral in '62, attended the Naval Academy and graduated with the class of '66. Served 8 years in the active navy, concurrently earning a MS degree from George Washington U in '74. Worked for the next 5 years as an engineer for Corning Glass Works in Blacksburg, VA. Returned to Annapolis and worked for the Naval Institute Press as an editor '79 - '86, where I helped edit Tom Clancy's first novel Hunt for Red October. Since '86 have been a high school physics teacher and tennis coach here in Annapolis. eacher from North Carolina, and have a 30-year-old daughter who works in environmental science in Washington, DC. Looking forward to retiring from teaching next year and taking up residence at our condo in Vero Beach, FL.
Military
Attended US Naval Academy '62 - '66. Played football w/Roger Staubach (scrub team).
'66 - '71 served on 2 destroyers and as 1st LT on the carrier Shangri-La. Had 2 lengthy deployments to VietNam.
'71 - '74 back to Annapolis as navigation instructor at USNA.
'74 - '95 was in Naval Reserve, in various billets including the Navy Command Center in Wash, DC, and CINCLANTFLT staff in Norfolk, Va. Retired w/rank of CDR in '95 after 33 years in a blue suit.
