Richard's Story
Life
After high school I spent 4 years in the Navy. In 1969, I married Denise Murdock in Bellingham, Washington where I also became a police officer. We lived in Washington State and Texas where I went to school and continued in police work. In 1980, we settled in Warrensburg, Missouri where I started my career as a college professor.
Denise and I were married almost 35 years when she passed away from cancer in November, 2003. I have 3 children, Julie (Pontin), Jeff, and Greg. Julie is married and lives in Colorado.

Missouri State University since 1980. I went to CMSU immediately after graduating from Sam Houston State University with a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice. Prior to attending SHSU I was a police officer in three different cities and two states. I was appointed chair of the CJ department in 1981.
I retired from CMSU in August, 2004. I have since moved to Tallahassee, Florida where I accepted the position of Director of the federally funded State and Local Anti-Terrorism Training program. This is a nation-wide program to train police officers about terrorism.
