Richard's Story

Life Earliest memories of life, 2 yo standing on the tarmac watching the small props taxi, take off and land at Love Field. The rest is the usual kid stuff... snakes, snails and puppy dog tails... then guns, booze, hunting, fishing, frog gigging, some edgumacation... hehehe Actually learned to play the guitar and smoke at the ripe old age of seven. Mom found out about my smoking her cigarettes... YIKES!!! In a game of chess, winning and pissing off the mom to the point of her throwing the game away... hehehe Elementary School Middle School High School Marine Corp Married in December of 84 just before shipping off again to the far east. A great wife (she had to be, to put up with me... hehehe), three college bound teen boys and 20 plus years later, it's been a real blast! Never a dull moment! School What can I say... it was the best time of my young life. Sure there were buttheads and butting heads with a couple of teachers... I'm sure I had my moments too. What ever passing was... I did exceed it. More later... College Part of my college attendance was a drag at best... hehehe Never the less I wound up at Richland for a while, then East Field and finally in 96, UT Arlington to work towards obtaining my Certified Novell Engineer(CNE) certification, a technical cert. Workplace I have worked for some of the finest companies at the time... Honeywell, Inc. - One of the top 1000 companies in the world at the time. The day after my End Active Service (EAS) date, I was hired for the protection services division and within a month was promoted to "Night Shift Supervisor"... WOW! Wound up using the time to pursue my passion of electronics... no... computers... no.... network engineering... yeahhhhh I JUST COULDN'T SIT STILL... My teachers from elementary, through high school will tell you that too... Along with some time in college I found technical schools were how I wanted to get ahead. BTW... Honeywell did get me my first ever cert - Certified NetWare Administrator - CNA! 1990 - While working for Honeywell, I ventured out and started my own company... did some contract work, setting up networks, running cable and installing servers. NetWare of course. So, educated on networking I setup our offices first network (ArcNet), with servers even…... then saw the writing on the wall and left late 92. Byerly Foods – late 92 – Wound up learning even more about servers and network environments, from the old Arcnet to the new Ethernet topology. I began to learn how NOT to run a business… hehehe Wound up out of a job, along with every one else, because of the bosses bad business decisions in the summer of 94. BKM – Summer 94 – This was a Steelcase manufacturer and re-manufacturer. Now begins a real education of network environments. Peer-to-peer and Client Server, I made it all work... somehow. Running cable for mainframe, client server and peer-to-peer took several weekends. I left summer of 95 for a more education and contracts. Mo-Money – summer of 95 – Let me tell ya about contracts. It ain’'t for the faint of hearts! Made BIG money! Enough that I could pursue my goal of a CNE! Certified NetWare Engineer… GREAT! Winter 96 – dropped all contract work and went back to tech school for my CNE. Class lasted until March of 96. Where I landed a better than average paying job (it was a stepping stone… hehehe) March of 96 – Texas Credit Union League – Great job and wonderful people I loved every moment of it. Had a great co-worker and confidant there. SHE was very knowledgeable and technical (did I mention SHE was cute too?..) I was soon educated on Microshaft... er uh Microsoft Windows 95... I left in March of 97. March 97 – Found better pay at DART... go figure... Presently working for DART as the Senior Technical Support Specialist! Education never ends here! Did I mention that I contract?... Update 9/25/2019 Contractor for Lockheed Martin Military - Mari...Expand for more
ne Corp - Sept. 1982 Started in high school under a "Special reserve program". So I got to spend about a year of reserve time out while in high school before actually going to boot. San Diego MCRD As a Hollywood Marine Graduated boot just before Christmas 82. The graduating Platoon 1089 nicknamed the 'EIGHT BALL' platoon. Our last trio of Drill Instructors motto: Blood dripping from our gourds, goo from our guts. We have the meanest drill instructors they're all f% nuts. The Senior is a crazy man, the other two are wild, When comparing them to savage beasts, the savage beasts seem mild. They never have to beat us, they never will mistreat us. In fact these broken bones you see, happened accidentally! Infantry Training (IT) school through late February 83. Okinawa, Japan - 3rd Recon, 3rd MarDiv, RIP, got my nickname "THE MOTEMAN" thanks Bell... don't ask. Traveled all over the far east Guam (the grass there really does grow as high as an elephants eye, and the water is filled with sharks), Tinian, Korea (no comment), Mainland Japan (got to speak w/Joan Jett in their RV... pictures and audio, but no videos), Philippines (long live the PO and those LBFMPBRs... and "Can you smell that smell?"...) If you have the means I recommend going to Ding Island Bay (I think thats how it's spelled). Some what mountainous, dangerous, but its beauty is spectacular - breath taking. Sitting on one of the hill tops there and looking down at the village you get a real sense of just how small and insignificant we are and that there is a real higher power at work here. Fall 1983 - R.I.P. Reconnaissance Indoctrination Program YEAH BABY! 1983 - Terrorist bombing of the Marine barracks, Beruit Lebanon. Please remember our fallen brothers, we lost a lot of great friends. Rotation time March of 84 back to the states and a paperwork snafu lands me at 2nd Btln 4th Marines (Guts of the magnificent bastrds!), Camp Lejuene, North Carolina. Training for mountain climbing at Bridgeport, California. Fell from a sheer face cliff about 20ft, hyper extended my thumb and wound up waiting for surgery for about a year. All the while getting some much needed education. DAMN! Left the corp in 86 for college at home. Spent the next five (5) years on reserve and raising kiddos! Update 10/16/08 My two older guys are now in college getting their basics done... albeit number two is taking automotive and wants to join the Navy now... Number one is a languages major... hope I said that right... He has Hebrew, Arabic, German, Spanish, Gaelic and some Mandarin under his belt. The youngest is a Senior in high school, rides a 03 Honda SuperHawk 996(with his hottie 21 yo college GF) and is chomping at the bit to join the Marine Corp... go figure... ;-) Update 3/8/09 The youngest has joined the Army and will be off to boot camp in June and then a full time college ticket... what can I say he scored high on the ASVAB! Update 8/31/09 The youngest has graduated HS and Army boot camp and is now at AIT. We all showed our support by running with him and his platoon at 4:30 am Friday 8/28 morning! OOOORAAAAHHHH! Update 10/25/09 The youngest has now graduated his AIT and is home doing his reserve time. As well, is currently working as a detention officer... shame, shame, know your name! He was welcomed home by the state of Texas, in the form of a state trooper. He was ticketed doing 13 miles over the speed limit... YIKES! To those who know me, "A chip off the old block" wouldn't you say?... ;-) "High speed and low drag" Also, Sunday he was put to work and helped me cut down the rest of an old maple tree at his grandmothers house. "No rest for the wicked" Update 9/25/11 Youngest returns from jump school, with a whole new found respect, for falling down!... :D (I had no problems with jump school and the landing... face first... :)) ) Update 5/3/12 Youngest has graduated NCO school! Moving up! I'll keep ya posted...
