David Richard's Story

So many years have passed since high scholl, I couldn't possibly tell it all here. Suffice to say that at the time of our 20 year reunion I was married with two kids, Mike and Cheri. Shortly after the reunion my marriage ended. I was single for quite some time, during which I worked in the film industry. I was a lot of things in film - from an actor at the start, to extra, to Production Assistant, to Trainee Assistant Director, and even Studio Manager. Even in the last two years I was Location Scout and Assistant Locations Manager in Ottawa working on a Tori Spelling movie. More recently I have now officially retired and have settled down in a little town east of Toronto called Cobourg. My wife Penny and I have been doing a lot of traveling lately - A Mediterranean cuise for 17 days, three trips to Florida, a cruise through Europe from Amsterdam to Budapest, a couple trips to Hawaii, and a couple to California. This year we have started off with a two week trip to Florida to visit my wife's sister. At the end of March we are off to South Africa to do some volunteer work at a Desmond Tutu Center for Leadership. We'll be preparing a camp for young orphans who have suddenly become heads of their households due to the deaths of their parents and grandparents. We'll be there for most of the month of April. Then we are off in our RV to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Flin Flon Manitoba for a couple weeks in May. Between May and September we may take a side trip to the east coast to see Gaspe. When we are at home I'll be building the pub I always wanted in my basement. Finally, our last trip for the year will be back to Europe where we will take another river cruise from St. Petersburg to Moscow for 16 days. I think we'll need a rest after all that. In 2009 we'll think of somewhere else to go. December, 2...Expand for more
010 Well, we took the cruise from St. Petersburg to Moscow - that was pretty interesting, Red Square in Moscow was amazing as was the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. In between was something to be desired - a lot of tundra. The trip to Africa was amazing! Our night time safari was very exciting indeed. The trip to Flin Flon we made in our Prius and not the RV. It was a very long trip and it was great to visit with Penny's family there. I finally constructed the Pub in my basement, it looks great! It wasn't until August of 2009 that we finally went on our big RV adventure. We visited the east coast starting with Newfoundland. What an incredible place that is. It is so rugged it simply blew me away. We spent more time there than we had planned and that was okay with the both of us. We also toured Nova Scotia and met Rita MacNeil at her tea house. In Lunenburg we saw the very last sailing of the training ship Concordia. It later sank in a storm off the coast of Brazil. On the way home my wife Penny would get sleepy in the afternoon, which was very unlike her. This sleepiness developed into a kink in her neck by the time we got home. Through mis-diagnosis and missed clues and the administration of some very powerful drugs which weakened her terribly she was eventually hospitalized in June 2010. Later she was transferred to a larger hospital in Toronto where she stayed for four months. In the end she unfortunately succumed to a drug resistant staph infection called MRSA and passed away on Oct 13 at three AM. Here is the message. Treat your life like the precious thing it is. Treat your mate for the precious being they are. Treat your health like the precious gift it is. And maybe we can all take the last piece of advice she gave me which was the last coherent thing she said - "Don't stop making love."
