Richard's Story

I think it’s time for an update. October 9, 2019 Carole and I have now been married as of October 1, (53 years). Our plans are to celebrate our anniversary in Vienna, Austria in a couple weeks. Actually, as I write this update, I am here in Vienna working. I am holding off going to the city because I have to come back in a couple weeks for another aircraft and just would like to share the experience with my wife. Yes, I am still working. Look, I sit and watch a video of blades going around in an aircraft engine. Put it on a memory stick and then provide a report. What can be hard about that? The pay is good, so why stop. Soon to be 73. We still get up to MD and visit. We did so just a few weeks ago. And then have some of those Blue Crabs that we so love. Hello to all Andover 66. May 30, 2010 Immediately after graduation I signed up for the AF. It is a good thing too; the draft papers were in the mailbox the day after signing. I met my wife, Carole just months before joining. We married in October 66. I shuffled her off to California where we spent 4 years at Travis AFB, and where I picked up my trade for life working on aircraft. Then discharged in 1970 and began my working career at Delta Airlines. In 1974 I talked my wife into accepting a transfer to Atlanta with Delta, which is their home base. It is also home of Coca Cola. Does not sit with me too much, I prefer Pepsi myself. Carole grew up in Glen Burnie and attended Glen Burnie High. She worked in retail sales for many years; for the most part at Macys. Then in the last few years part-time in an Antic Shop. Now most of her time is involved with grandkids. Great grandkids too. Don't ask me how that happen. Its her, not me. I keep telling her at 63 I am way too young. She argues she's younger. For that I don't have an answer. Over the years we have enjoyed traveling. Being in the aviation business, it was easy to do. Evidently, I didnt get enough of travel through those years. I retired from Delta in 2000 and st...Expand for more
arted a business of inspecting aircraft engines. So that puts me on the road a lot. I have not figured out a way to make them bring the aircraft to me. When I say inspecting, what I do is complete a video of the internal airstream of the engine. Then put them on DVDs for the particular airline or leasing company. Today, most aircraft are leased rather than purchased and everyone wants to know the condition of the engine internally, so that is what I do. Carole sometimes goes along when there interesting places. Two that stand out are Costa Rica and Nova Scotia. I stay in touch with a couple of Andover students over the years. What surprises me most is how so many of our students have spread out across the map. Did you think when we were all in high school you would be living where you are now? Speaking of spread out, my sister Pat who also graduated in 66 has lived in San Diego area, (actually Poway) since 1970. She met her husband at Travis AFB while I was there and she was visiting. She is in good company; Elvis Presley met Priscilla there also. Her dad was a Captain at Travis. A question I like to ask, is if you had a chance to go back and do it all over again, would you? Just an update now that it's 2014, and I am 67. My wife and I still live in Fayetteville, GA. We enjoy our great grandkids. I have slowed down with my work, but I still travel to do engine inspections. This February coming, we have a short trip planned for Vegas. I already have tickets for Human Nature at the Sands, (50s and 60s Motown). And we hope to get over to Hawaii sometime in 2015. October 4, 2015 - Just celebrated our 49th anniversary. We did make it to the big island of Hawaii. I suspect I will do some work this year, but not much. Mostly enjoying being home. I bought a new, (old toy), a backhoe. I have 5 acres and I am putting up a large shed so the backhoe helped with leveling and the footer. I also have an area to clear out for a garden next spring. And then some other areas I want to work on.

There will be a straw-poll to see who gets to go.
History will show that after more than 200 years America had risen to a great United Nation. Then came Joe Biden. History will again show that old Joe almost destroyed us. I say almost because President Trump Will Make A
