Richard's Story
Life
Actually, I have been blessed most of my life. I went into the Air Force right out of high school and liked it so much, I stayed for 24 years. I joined partly to follow in my Dad's footsteps as my son has followed in mine and joined recently. They gave me one of the most awesome jobs, meteorology (and yes, I am a Weather Geek). I was stationed at Patrick AFB twice and went from being a low ranking Weather Observer on the first tour to being a Launch Weather Forecaster and then Chief of Weather Station Operations on my second. I also got the opportunity to spend 14 of my 24 years in Combat Weather Operations supporting the U. S. Army. When I retired, I floated between working IT Contracts for the U. S. Army in South Korea and volunteering to teach English to preschoolers down town. I finally got a contract in Pensacola and then hired into the Civil Service ...Expand for more
back here in South Korea where I am to this day.
School
High School is still one of the most vivid times in my life. Being in the band was like being in a family, celebrating with everyone for our victories and crying with all for our troubles. What affected one, affected all. I had some really great friends, some of whom I chat with today. I also have many regrets about some of the idiotic things I did. Too much partying, not enough studying. I was young, naïve, and learning about life and there are a couple of fellow classmates that I wish I had a better relation with. Our little click spent weekends at the Drive-in, Disney World, or having one of our famous Camp-Out parties in the woods behind the school. Some of our crazy antics, 14 kids in my DadÂs Pacer for an outing to Disney, 23 in the station wagon on a night to the Drive-in ($5 a car load).
