Richard's Story

After working at odd jobs out of high school, I joined the Navy in order to find some direction and a career path. That made me see, first of all, that I needed to make permanent my relationship with Debbie Schuett. Eight years was a long time for her to wait but she did and I'm thankful. She had received her teaching degree and was teaching third grade in the Hemlock school system. My Navy career was challenging and took us to CA, TX, FL, and VA. Along the way I earned my commission and wings of gold as a Naval Aviator. Fun times. At the same time our family grew to six with the addition of three daughters and a son. Debbie was/is a great mom and I owe the fact we have four wonderful kids to her holding down the fort while I sailed the seas. Two of our girls married Marines, one is local, and our son recently married a young lady in the Navy so as you can imagine those three are scattered far and wide. As soon as we can we're going to schedule a trip to Hawaii to visit our son and daughter-in-law. I was never stationed in Hawaii. Ha! My last duty station was h...Expand for more
ere in Pensacola at Officer Candidate School so upon retirement I went back to school for my computer science degree to extend my knowledge gained in the Navy and got a job as a programmer/Database Admin at a medical center. Debbie worked in childcare as lead teacher and director. How time flew! We both retired in 2015 and are trying hard to put this time to good use with activities to keep us in shape and watching our eight grandchildren grow up. Hard to believe fifty years have passed and it's now reunion time. Kudos to Jan (Morrison) Young for being the face of our reunions. I know it must be hard work keeping track of all of us. I'm familiar with Jan as she has always tipped me off when reunions were approaching and we shared a class in Mr Scherzer's Trig class, so I apologize for not knowing the other individuals who also put in a lot of time making these reunions a success. Debbie and I are looking forward to the reunion and renewing friendships and visiting with former classmates. I do hope there is a big turnout, especially all you folks who live nearby.
