Richard's Story
Life
Graduated from SUNY Maritime College 1960 with a BS in Marine Transportation. Went to Sea as a 3rd Mate in the Merchant Marine. Sailed for US Lines,Farrell Lines,Grace Lines and Moore McCormack Lines. Trips covered East and West Coasts of S. America and Europe as well as Ports in the USA.Also became an Ensign with the USNR. Came ashore and went to work for General Foods Corp. (Now known as Altria).
Married in 1962 to Emily Ford of New Rochelle. Still married 42 years later. Emily graduated from the College of New Rochelle in 62. We have 3 children,Elizabeth Graduate of Rosemont College in Pa.,Richard Graduate of SUNY Maritime and Graduate degree from Univ of Minn. and Alicia Graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology.
All are married. We have 7 Grand children. 2 sets of twins. 4 Girls 3 Boys
Spent 11 yrs with Gen Foods.Started in White Plains Than went to Rye,NY,Atl.Ga.,Jax,Fla.St Louis,Mo.Rye again,Boston,Mass.Syracuse,NY. Left them in Syracuse to assume a position with Wine Merchants Ltd in Syracuse. Wanted to stop moving for awhile. Left them for a position with Standard Brands in NYC. Moved to Princeton. Than Tannersville,Pa., Long Valley,N.J.,Spent 14 years with Std Brds and lived "Barbarians at the Gate". Std Brds became Nabisco Brds which than became RJR Nabisco. Worked with Ross Johnson,Martin Emmitt and many other interesting people.

ador to the than Soviet Union. Spent several weeks in Country visiting Moscow, Kharkov, Odessa, St Petersburg & Vilnius, Lithuania. Very interesting time to be there.
In 1988(WE were empty nesters) I joined Itel Corp as President of Itel Distribution Systems in San Francisco, Ca. During that time (2 yrs) we maintained our residence in NJ and lived on a 47ft Chris Craft in Sausalito, Ca.Went thru the 89 earthquake where I was 10 stories up on Sacramento St. Not great fun but certainly interesting. Too much of a good thing as Company was sold and I didnt have a job.Great fun though. Took a position with Mead Corp in Dayton,Ohio as VP Logistics for the Zellerbach Div. Spent a couple of years doing that and than took over as a Corp Officer and VP Logistics for WoolWorth Corp in NYC. Moved to Morristown, N.J. Its better known as FOOT LOCKER,today. Participated in the total restructuring of the Comp from WW to FL. Spent a significant amount of time in Europe where we built a new Distribution Center in Holland.Bought a home on the Jersey Shore(AVALON)Retired from FL Sold home in Morristown and started building a home in Williamsburg Va. Reside in both places today. Play Golf(poorly) and volunteer at Jamestown Historical Society aboard the replica ships. Recently served as a crew member on the new Godspeed bringing her from Jamestown to Alexandria, Va. She will visit ports on the East Coast this summer ,2006, including Boston,Newport,NYC,Phila and Balt .
