Richard's Story

I graduated from the U. of Toledo in 1970 in Civil Engineering & moved to California in 1972. I raised my family of 2 boys & 2 girls in the San Francisco Bay area. This was a great life and a super place to raise a family. I had my own business with two partners and I got to travel the world selling large construction cranes. We moved to Portland OR. in 2005. I have been in the construction crane business for 45 years and now have my own retail business called Craneman & Equipment Company. I have 5 Beautiful Grand-Daughters. (1-2yrs. 2-11yrs. 1-15yrs. & 1-18yrs). I have one 4 yrs. old Grand-Son, as my youngest daughter got married in Aug.- 2011. I have been happily married going on 48 years to my wonderful wife Rose (Dennis) Rankin. Rose went to Rogers High School and graduated in 1966. All her family are still in the Maumee and Toledo area. Sadly she passed away in 2020. I get back to Toledo every summer for a family reunion and go to N. Michigan fishing. This is something we did as a family all my life. I still have three Sisters living the...Expand for more
re and a Brother in Cleveland. He is a very famous Wild Life Artist. Google him and see for your self (David Rankin Watercolors Artist). I live in a great place for fishing but come back to my roots with all there memories. I always try to catch a TU football game when I'm back as I played there from 61-63. I also played for the DeVilbiss Tigers. Dan Simeral and I were the only two Toledo Boys to make the U. of Toledo football team that year (1961). Dan was the DeVilbiss Quarterback and I was a wide receiver. Dan went on and became the U. of Toledo Football Coach. They did very well under Dan's coaching. The team came out to Fresno, Ca. to play in a Bowl Game and I took my son and went to see them play. We saw Dan and had some nice words together before the game. I am in good health and try to stay active walking and exercising on a regular basis. My hobbies are coin collecting, shooting , fishing ,boating, golfing with my Grand Daughter Hanna and playing with my cars. Please let me know what your life has been like! Sincerely, Rick Rankin
