I like, (1) significant throughout life, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you; Honesty is the best policy; It's never wrong to do (what's) right; Where there is a will (to do), there's a way ( to do); The truth is the easiest story to remember; When in doubt, tell the truth [Samuel Langhorne Clemens a/k/a Mark Twain]; The first impression is the lasting one; Can't judge a book by its cover; If you love me, love my dog; Every dog has its day; He who laughs last laughs loudest; A penny saved is a penny earned; Reality is stranger than fiction; Variety is the spice of life; There's someone for everyone; White man speak with forked tongue; Might does NOT make right; Ends do not justify means; Can' t (do) never could (do); Common sense isn't (common); Any fool can ask more questions than the wise man can answer; There's no fool like an old fool; Cool heads (usually) prevail; No good deed goes unpunished; If easy, everyone would be doing it; Men rise to their level of incompetence; "Bad" money drives "Good" money out (of circulation). (2) personally significant, whether in recent decades or in recent days, Hope for the best, prepare for the worst; Duties are not performed for duty's sake but because their neglect would make the man uncomfortable - A man performs but one duty - the duty of contenting his spirit, the duty of making himself agreeable to himself [Samuel Langhorne Clemens a/k/a Mark Twain]; Friendship ... is not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything. [Muhammad Ali]; A sad truth, but sh_t floats to the top; Government is the negation of liberty, The ultimate basis of an all around bureaucratic system is violence [Ludwig Von Mises]; And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed…if all records told the same tale…then the lie passed into history and became truth. From, or repeated within, "Wall Street," Gordon Gekko, Lunch is for wimps; A fool and his money are lucky enough to get together in the first place; I create nothing, I own; What's worth doing is worth doing for money; The most valuable commodity I know of is information; It's all about bucks ... everything else is just conversation; Every battle is won before it is fought; If you're not inside, you're outside; You gonna tell me the difference between this guy and that guy is luck; We [he and Damien Taylor] are smart enough not to buy into the oldest myth running, love. Marv, We're all just one trade away from humility. Bud Fox, Life comes down to a few moments, this is one of them, There's no nobility in poverty today, As much as I wanted to be Gordon Gekko, I'll always be Bud Fox. Sunday, 31 March 2013 (JST) - latest addition(s) and/or edit(s) ...". More about Richard "Rick(y)":"An Optimist since "way back" (today, possibly a "Rational Optimist"). Happened to be born in the "Land of the Free" and the "Home of the Brave," although seemingly less so as the decades pass. A laid-back, live/let live, non-corporate type from the beginning? INDEPENDENT (a bit "contrarian") seemingly, since birth perhaps. Accustomed to "defying the odds" and prevailing ... or being prevailed ... in the most trying of life's unending challenges! Have travelled some. Seems that I will remain within the no...Expand for more
n-USA-mainland Pacific Rim, where personal ties are long (since 1980) and intimate, but not necessarily as a full-time resident of "East Asia," as now. Like the possibilities of dividing time between E. Asia and other points (southerly) in connection with fulfilling family duties, maintaining economic independence to a greater extent, enjoying a high quality of daily life (as now) and living-out a seeming bit of unfulfilled (as yet) destiny. (Previous to much of FB's ever accelerating re-working of the site, much "Biographical" info was provided (at the former "Education & Work" section, an important section of the profile) which simply VANISHED along with substantial personal content I haven't yet rewritten for inclusion within the new "Work and Education" section, and won't ... having since done so in exhaustive detail within another profile at another online site devoted to initiating and maintaining primarily business or professional relationships, rather than those which are non-business, non-professional ... which just happen to be the MOST IMPORTANT of all at this point in life (the relationships maintained here at FaceBook, and those maintained by way of another social, ie, fraternal ... online site). Concerning leisure travel, someday, plan to transit the Suez Canal by luxury liner, absent the threat of modern day "pirates;" and plan to visit Italy, Portugal, Morocco, Namibia, Barcelona & Cape Town, the "most beautiful" city in the world I've been told ... by someone who should, and probably does, know. Although I bowled, swam, fresh-water fished (for Crappie, my favorite), played basketball and some baseball (and Dodge Ball, and Horseshoes too, for that matter) in years long ago at Elementary School level (I actually attended four different Elementary Schools, ie, Wadsworth for first grade, Sky Haven for part of second grade, Snapfinger for part of second grade thru sixth grade, the "best" one, and finally Stone Mountain Elementary for seventh grade) ... enjoyed Croquet the most (Yes!) and may try this again if ever the opportunity arises , as its worldwide popularity has risen since. Last spring (2011) Reynolds Plantation in Georgia's "Lake Country" welcomed players and onlookers to the site of the Georgia State Championship (2009). "Spectacular lake [Oconee]and golf course views, and the croquet lawn at Reynolds Plantation proves ... [made for] a stunning and worthy venue," I read. Croquet in Georgia seems to be a focus of increasing interest and attention. As is the case with Golf (since 2005) I watch and enjoy televised Figure Skating events from time to time, a competition with which I've become more acquainted while residing abroad. But, I have never actually "followed" pro sports. Distracted, I've been basically. My wife does, however, being an avid golfer since her college days, thus the FB golf-related links and groups. I most like the game of Baseball and agree with the late Saul Steinberg of the New Yorker Magazine, who observed thus, "Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem." I have liked Drag Racing alot since early High School days (sports) ... but must admit to liking Little League Baseball more nowadays, especially as each season nears the end ... and the worldwide climax at Williamsport, Pa., where the Championships are hosted each year (and where the best American & Japanese teams have dominated play since 2000, including in 2007 when the World Series Champion was a team from tiny Warner Robins, a town in middle Georgia near the main North/South interstate 75). Concerning Little League Baseball (2009) Warner Robins American LL, once again Southeastern Regional Champion, was defeated in the USA Semi-final round (11-10) of the 63rd LLWS competition in Williamsport by West Region Champion, Park View LL (Chula Vista, Ca.) which afterward proved itself America's best ... on its way to becoming the World's best. In 2010, Columbus Northern LL (Columbus, Ga.) played at Williamsport as the Southeastern Region Champion. America's "Best," however, was the West Region Champ, Waipio LL (Waipahu, Oahu, Hawaii) which afterward played but lost to the International Champion (Japan's Best) 4-1 in the World Series Championship (Final) Game. (In 2010, a girls Little League team from tiny Warner Robins, Georga, won the LL World Series of Softball, which is played each year in Portland, Oregon.) In 2011, another spectacular thing happened. One of the two local leagues "here" (Hamamatsu City) produced a Japan Champion Little League Baseball Team. (The same team rose from among Japan's eight divisions in 2011, only to be defeated in the final game of tournament play by a team from the Tokyo division, a Tokyo league team.) The team, Hamamatsu Minami, represented Japan in the 65th Little League World Series and became the International Champion of Little League Baseball during the World Series competition in August. More will be written here about this as time permits. Meanwhile, wall posts (August 2011) may be looked-at to learn more about this and related events occurring in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 2011! [Paragraph above added to "Basic Information," FaceBook Profile, LRG, Tuesday, 27 September 2011, 1:50 pm, JST] Returning to the subject of Golf (from further above) ... On 15 May 2012, Oglethorpe University, won its second national Men's (NCAA) Golf Championship at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The national title is the Stormy Petrels' second in four (4) years. In 2009, my alma mater's golf team was likewise crowned the national collegiate champion, an Oglethorpe University "first." As of 17 July 2012, Oglethorpe is only the sixth school to win multiple championships in the thirty-seven (37) year history of this event. Quite an accomplishment, and one that is worthy of mentioning here ... Besides such collegiate, fraternal, and "Home" Team(s) to which I have personal ties, my "favourite" teams are usually the "Underdogs." (In Major League Baseball this does NOT apply. The Chicago White Sox team, for example, is my pro Baseball favorite wherever I'm situated. I don't really "follow" this team, however, nor any other professional ones). Sunday, 21 October 2012 (slight re-editing, "Returning to the subject of Golf, just above" - related text, 2:00 pm, JST/1:00 am, EDT.)".
