Richard's Story
College
I had a somewhat checkered college career -- ended up attending three: Georgia Tech, DeKalb Community College, and Georgia State. Graduated from Georgia State, then spent a year working before getting a Master's in Library Service at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa).
Career
Pursued, but didn't quite catch, a Bachelor's in Illustration from Georgia State (I settled for a BA in Fine Art), so I kept on working at the job I'd held through most of college at the Doraville City Library. Took a year off to get my Master's, then came back and worked from 1989 to 1998 as the reference librarian. f mid-June 2008, have served my 10th year as library director.
Family
Married Margaret Shippen (a native of Buckhead) in 1992, and we have three great kids: Jane (born in 1995), Will (born in 1997), and Mary Ellen (born in 2003).
Otherwise
Still pretty much a geek. Still doing a little artwork from time to time. Still a big fan of fantasy and sci-fi. Still on the staff at Dragon*Con in Atlanta every Labor Day weekend. Have become, often to my horror, very active in the community in Hart County, serving on various boards and committees, including the community theatre. Have even played a few lead roles in local productions, including (entirely unsurprisingly) the part of "Felix" in the recent production of "The Odd Couple".
