I played Pop Warner in 8th grade and when frosh year came I wasn't going to play football. My math teacher, the friendly Mr. Baker, came to me and said, "I didn't see you out for practice the other day" and I replied that I did pop warner last year, however I wasn't going to play again. Smily Mr. Baker replied, "you might want to think it over", then in my afternoon World Geography class, my teacher, the straight shooting Mr. Zarnekee (Dale's Dad) came to me and said something like, "I didn't see you at football practice the other day and if you plan on passing this class, Your BUT_ better be out on the field"...I passed both...and later while we were on our way to the state championship in 71/72, and after the kickoff, I came off the field and Mr. Vaught was screaming (I don't think it was obscenities as he would never acknowledge any such action), anyway he was screaming at me and told me to get my AS_ back in there,.At the half time I was distressed while Mr. V...Expand for more
was going over the plays, then in the 3rd inning they finally benched me and had Doc Tepper check me out, so they left me on the bench for the rest of the game...then I was supposed to go to the dance, only they figured something was wrong with me (Brenda Tiahrt sp?,no comments), so Scott Robinson and um a team mate were driving me home, and Scott turns around and looks at me and says, "I don't know, maybe we better take him to the hospital, he looks kinda dead", so they drove me home...Monday morn my mother took me to the doctor and they determined I had had a mild concussion., I didn't remember much from the 1st quarter on..oh ya and in the muddy Scappoose game, Tracy Tietz got sacked, and he just layed there as we were watching him lifeless, then after a bit, he came to, and dazed he said, "AM I IN HEAVEN?", I think they let him come back in later as we won that game, we had to change our Jerseys at the half, because the mud wiped out any indication of a Jersey Number...
