Richard's Story
Life
I joined the Air Force in 1966. I spent 4 years as a recruiter. I switched to the Navy in 1980. I was selected to be Zone Supervisor for Naval Recruiting having from Orlando to Puerto Rico as my area until I retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1990. After I retired, my wife and I decided to take ballroom dance lessons. After holding the United States Amateur title for two years in the Cabaret Division (overhead lifts) we decided to turn professional. We have performed in shows or competed in Russia, England, Ireland, Italy, Holland, Hong Kong and Japan and all but a few states. We have owned Rhapsody Ballroom in Tampa Florida for the past 31years. We still do about 6-8 shows a year....Expand for more
Some of our performances include dancing for the Naples Philharmonic and the Sarasota Orchestra as well as competing on PBS "Evening of Championship Ballroom Dancing" and Americas Got Talent. We took part in a competition at the Ryman Auditorium (Grand Ole Opry) dancing a solo routine and finished 2nd out of 300 contestants. What a thrill! Our son graduated from the Honors College at the University of South Florida. We are active members at Fowler Ave. Baptist Church. My wife is a Sunday School teacher and also sings in the choir and I am the sound man. I also have become a member of Gideons International. God has blessed us in so many ways. See us on YouTube.
