Richard's Story
Life
October 23, 2007
After high school I attended Flint Junior College for a couple of years while working on a degree in chemical engineering. I then enlisted in the Marines for 4 years, and was stationed with the Third and First Air Wings in Japan and southern California. Next I went to work for Univac, where I spent 31 years identifying data communications problems, teaching classes, and assisting marketing. After retiring at age 55 I went back to college for a degree in humanities. I have a daughter who lives in Iowa with her husband and my 2 grandsons.
After my wife of 40 years died in May of 2002 I became envolved in many activities: tennis, biking, rowing, sailing, hiking, ballroom dancing, and the folk harp. I take a dance lesson every week, and tennis lessons twice a week. I've been dating for about 4 years and have made many interesting friends, including several female pals (walking, laughing, cooking; biking, hiking, Nordic skiing, kay...Expand for more
aking). I still enjoy reading, as well as poetry, foreign and independent films, and music (I taught myself the saxophone). As a certified Red Cross sailing instructor I've taught many people how to sail safely. In August of 2006 I sailed across Lake Michigan in a 26' S2 from Manitowoc to Ludington and up the lee shore to Charlevoix. Last fall I participated in a televised ballroom dance demonstration with my USA Dance group, and at Easter acted, sang, and danced while playing an Apostle in the religious musical "The Promise." Last summer, instead of sailing every week, I concentrated on my tennis game, and played with a USTA men's team. In June I was lucky enough to meet a wonderful woman on the Internet, so now am commuting to St. Paul every weekend. We're interested in plays, mainly at the Guthrie; poetry, musical events, trying out new restaurants, Scrabble, visiting with friends and families, but mainly in being together.
Life is good,
