Richard's Story
It's hard to believe how the years have past so quickly since my Waco High School years. I attended the Columbus Avenue school and graduated from the North 19th street campus. I never really was a serious student but I must admit that I had a great time at Waco High. I was a member of the Waco High Tiger marching band. I didn't even make the top 50% of our graduating class but I decided to get a little more serious about school after graduation. After Waco High, I made the honor society at MCC. Next, I transferred to UT where I graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin (Go Longhorns). It was an amazing and educational experience for me. In the mid eighties, I attended a leadership program and ended up in graduate school at Texas A&M University in College Station. That was also an incredible learning experience. After completing my Master's degree in Industrial Education, I was encouraged by my master's degree faculty committee members to pursue a Ph.D...Expand for more
. I thought wow! and decided to go for it and completed my Ph.D. I worked at MCC from 1979 until 2000 as HR Director and Associate Dean of Continuing Education. After MCC, I worked for the Brazos River Authority as the HR and organizational development manager where I learned a lot about life. About seven years ago, I was honored by the Waco ISD Foundation as a distinguished Alumni of Waco ISD - Imagine that! For the last five years, I've worked in Fort Worth where I am the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources at Tarrant County College District. Not bad for a poor little old barrio boy from South Waco...
I have three grown children and a great wife. I live in Fort Worth but still keep a home in Waco and visit often. My wife decided she wanted to stay in Waco - Yea. This past November I finished the New York City Marathon despite my injured my knee - almost last. For now and until later, un abrazo y un beso. Richard (Ricardo) Coronado, class of 1972 - Go Tigers!
