Richard's Story
Life
I live in Akron with my wife Emily, who works as a radiologic technologist at the Akron General Diagnostics Center in Tallmadge. I am currently pastor of two Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) here in the Akron area Firestone Park Christian Church and Barberton Christian Church. I am also continuing to write for church publications, having publish several sermons a year for "Proclaim" and write articles for Communication Resources in Canton. A few years ago I was one of five authors of a book of sermons. My daughter, Gretchen, is currently finishing her second Masters degree at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. She has teaching degrees in theatre, and this will be an MFA, hoping to go on in acting. This summer she is touring several states doing a two woman show for children, appearing mostly at libraries. She also just did her first local commercial in Greensboro. My son, Benjamin, has lived in Pittsburgh (go Browns!) for the past eight years where he attended film school with hopes of becoming a film director. He is now intrested in soundtracks. He made one movie with Scott (Chachi) Baio ("The Bread My Sweet" or "A Wedding for Bella"- look for it in a video store, it's cute)as an electrician and almost got in on "The Mothman Prophecy" with Richard Gere, but missed out. Ben is currently working at a southside restaurant (the Gypsy Cafe) i...Expand for more
n Pittsburgh trying to make enough tips to finance his band, the Van Allan Belt. The are releasing a CD for which he wrote most of the songs. Stop in a leave him a big tip! My stepdaughter, Sarah, now lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland, just across the street from Washington, D.C. She works at the Roundhouse Theatre there in Bethseda as the group sales representative. As you can see, all my children are into the creative arts. I am happily married although it took two tries to find it, and am happy at my work in the church although it took a move to another denomination to find that. I am not happy with the present state of our country, or the mess the present administration is making. Life takes some funny turns, and I'm sure none of us are where we thought we'd be at this point in our lives when we left the halls of West Holmes high. But as Morgan Freeman said in the "Shawshank Redemption" (made partly in Mansfield, by the way)"You get busy living, or you get busy dying." I hope whoever reads this has kept busy living so as to avoid dying. It was great to see so many classmates of the WH Class of '70 at our "36th" reunion last fall in Millersburg. Somehow we missed 35, so we had to make up for it.
If you are ever in Akron, look me up at one of the churches, or check the white pages for my home phone. God bless us all, and God bless Holmes County! (June 2007 update)
