Sent to Fort Polk for advanced infantry training, 11B10, light arms bearer, but since my brother volunteered for NAM, went to Korea for 13 months to a top secret nuclear facility. As in saving Private Ryan, the army can't send two brothers to the same war zone at the same time.

Everest, slept in train stations in Indian, packed prawns in Darwin, Australia. Visited Grand parents ancestral homes in Poland and Finland.
1975-78: Drove my Triumph Spitfire from Detroit to Los Angeles, worked for the VA in Los Angeles investigating schools from Ruth Johnsons flight school, Long Beach Deep Sea Diving Academy, to UCLA and UC-Irvine.
1979: Got married to the lovely Linda Klink from St. Clair Shores. Moved from Los Angeles to Berkeley, CA. Linda works as public health nurse.
1984: Our son Drew, who has Down Syndrome, was born. Worked hard at early intervention and inclusion.
1986: Got a Ph.D. in sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. Learned how to be politically correct.

y, and had many of the NCAA winning basketball players in classes. Linda is nurse at VA and teacher at Hillside High School.
1997-present: Taught sociology at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. Won the faculty lottery and got to buy basketball tickets. People here are nuts about basketball.
2001: Our US Tennis Association Senior Team wins the state of Kentucky title and we go to Mobile, Alabama for the Southern Sectionals. Lost to Georgia.
2002: Drew graduates from Tates Creek High School and wins his 10th gold metal at the State Special Olympics Swimming meet. I am one of the Swim coaches (knowing little or nothing about swimming, but I'm learning).
2007-2009: Director of Graduate Studies at UK taking care of 60 students pursing MAs and Ph.Ds.
2008: Drew gets full time job at Kennedy Bookstore and loves it -- lots of young girls work there.
2009: Bought a new Mercury Milan that had 9,000 dollars damage in an accident after having it only 7 days, and then it was totalled after 11 months. It was a rough summer, but all is well.
2009: Linda and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in September.
2010: Fifth book will come out: "The Ironies of Citizenship: Naturalization Policies in Eighteen Industrialized Countries" at Cambridge University Press.
2010-2011: Off on sabbatical leave for a year. Plan to travel for fun and play lots of tennis. Also have to finish my NSF project on "The Maturing of Lean Production" that compares worker experiences in Japanese Transplant and American automobilie plants.
2014: I'll probably retire to painting acrylic art work, playing the saxophone and trombone (bought a new trombone with a trigger), and playing senior tennis (hopefully till I'm 90 or so).
