Barbara Pruden's Story
Life
After attending Queens College in Charlotte, NC and being a sychronized swimmer, I started teaching in Hampton, VA, and married my soulmate from Bedford, Ohio, Dick. We had Todd and Kristin and lived at Lake Montonia, Kings Mountain, NC, until the kids finished high school, then lived in San Jose, California, for 22 years. I received my masters from SJSU and taught special children and adults for most of my teaching career. We now live in Las Vegas and love it as much as we loved all the other places. I'm happy with my life, my relatives, and my friends. We have five grandchildren I'd love to hear from people who remember me or shared similar experiences.
School
I loved the creek behind Richard E. Byrd School, the folk dancing classes, and sixth grade with Mr. Paul Schneider and choral reading. In Glen Rock Jr. High I remember the gym classes, the exploratory classes, Latin, Art and Music Appreciation, and Drafting. I...Expand for more
n Blacksburg, SC, I enjoyed the debating teams and the walk to the SC state line to catch the school bus. In, NC, Shelby HS, I enjoyed band, lifeguarding at the city pool, football games, dating, being a Sophomorette, the proms and dances, and all the good people that I had the opportunity to go to school with. It was a very fun-filled time of my life!
College
Well, the synchronized swimming was the most fun. I finally started to actually care about learning. I enjoyed almost all my classes. I liked the talent shows, the dorm life, the camaraderie, the isolation from the world. I enjoyed the dances and dating and the opportunity to meet so many different types of men. I always learned from each what it was or wasn't that I was looking for in a husband. I finally found the right one after I graduated. College was good preparation for experiencing the many different qualities that humans can have. Loved my time in college!
